Warner suggests Bulger as a stopgap QB for the Cards

Former Cardinals QB Kurt Warner believes Marc Bulger is a perfect fit for Ken Whisenhunt's offense. Warner ought to know better than anyone since he was Bulger's teammate with the Rams before mastering the Cardinals' offense. Warner believes Bulger makes for a "nice stopgap" for a couple of years as long as Arizona upgrades its offensive line to keep him from getting beat up as he did in St. Louis.

and Palmer

"I think a guy like Carson Palmer would be tremendous in that kind of system," Warner told Chuck and Vince on the Fan AM 1060 Thursday.

Warner also shared some advice on a guy he's played with plenty of times in his career, Marc Bulger.

"The thing I always look at putting guys in certain systems is, how does it fit what they have done in their career and how does it fit their skill set?" Warner said. "If the Cardinals want to do what we did when I was there, I think Marc fits the bill extremely well. He is a very accurate passer down the field, he can read defenses, he understands the system they plasy there and can do those things very well."

Looks like Bulger is going to be the QB in Arizona. You better listen to Warner....he knows a thing or two about winning.

He is awful fragile. If you sign him, you better plan to draft a Qb, and groom him.

He's no stranger to losing either, Sarge.

But I tend to agree with you. Bulger would be a cheap "Stop Gap" QB, but I agree with Phicin in that they better start grooming a QB for next year.

Cardinals | Team not inclined to spend money on a veteran QB Sun Mar 20, 03:08 PM

Brad Biggs, from NationalFootballPost.com, reports Arizona Cardinals owner Bill Bidwell doesn't want to spend big money for a veteran quarterback at this point.

fbg's view: According to the report free agent QB Marc Bulger could be on his way to Arizona with a one-year $4 million deal. This is the same type of deal that Kurt Warner signed when he went to Arizona after a bad stint with the New York Giants.

hmmm, never been to nfp, so i went to take a look . . . seems like fbg is speculating . . . "could" being the most important word in their view . . . lol . . . sorry for the shock:

One of the many teams in the hunt for a starting quarterback is the Arizona Cardinals who, a year later, are still working on the not so small task of replacing Kurt Warner.

Marc Bulger, who followed Warner in St. Louis, has been mentioned as a possibility. The Cardinals have been mentioned as one of the three NFC West teams that could be interested in Kevin Kolb, who the Philadelphia Eagles are shopping.

Of course, the Cardinals are also out kicking the tires on some of the draft prospects, and it’s believed they’ll take a close look at Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert although they may not be interested in Auburn’s Cam Newton, the Heisman Trophy winner.

If the Cardinals don’t go after a high draft pick – and sitting at No. 5 there is no guarantee Gabbert will be available when they select – then they’re going to have to fish in an awful small pond of veterans.

Compounding the problem is owner Bill Bidwill doesn’t want to spend big for a veteran quarterback at this point. One league source said ownership isn’t inclined to do anything more than the $4 million, one-year contract that Warner was given in 2005 after his not so successful stint with the New York Giants. Now, Warner walked away from the second year of a $23 million, two-year contract in 2010, but the Cardinals didn’t pay him until he performed like he did during the heyday of the Greatest Show on Turf.

Per our source, Bidwill doesn’t want to open the checkbook to pay and there is some concern this is going to handcuff coach Ken Whisenhunt. The Cardinals, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported, will impose a 35 percent pay cut on coaches beginning April 11 if the lockout is still ongoing. Slashing coaches’ salaries is a good way to motivate them to seek work elsewhere. Going cheap at the single most important position in football is a good way to ensure the franchise returns to its old ways.

Thats true, but still, the guy was the best QB the Cards have probably ever had, he has intimate knowledge of Bulger and the Cards system, and unlike any other trash Arizona could put under center, he has been to Super Bowls and won one.

49ers expected to make a play for QB Bulger

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi "fully expects" the 49ers to be in on Marc Bulger once free agency kicks off.
Lombardi is tight with 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh. Bulger was impressive in practices for John Harbaugh last season, so it's a good bet that his brother has the full scoop. San Fran is one of nearly a dozen teams looking to draft a quarterback in the first couple of rounds of the draft. Bulger could serve as a bridge to the next franchise QB.

Do these teams really think he still has it? IDK, maybe another Favre here? Playing past his prime, if somebody does take him, they better have a good o-line or he wont last very long.
