Vincent Jackson is on the block

rotoworld,
The Chargers have granted the Seahawks permission to discuss contract terms with unsigned and disgruntled wide receiver Vincent Jackson.

The story is confirmed by Seattle GM John Schneider, so it's legit. While Yahoo's Jason Cole admits that "no significant progress has occurred to this point," sources say Chargers GM A.J. Smith is now "committed" to trading V-Jax. The Bolts are convinced he will not play for them this year. The Seahawks have obviously been displeased with Deion Branch, and T.J. Houshmandzadeh is hardly a difference maker anymore. Jackson would give Seattle a bonafide deep threat who can dominate in the red zone and run game as a blocker.

The cbssports.com spin,

Analysis: Jackson is suspended for the first three games of this season wherever he plays. While that might hurt his initial production, he's still expected to be a quality Fantasy option once he gets his legs back under him and is on the field. If he signs a long-term deal and goes to Seattle, he could be a very helpful option for QB Matt Hasselbeck and be a candidate for 1,000 yards and seven-plus touchdowns even without three games. Since his days on the field seem numbered in San Diego, we'd like to see him in Seattle. Because of this news, expect to see Jackson picked in the middle rounds in drafts over the next week or two. If he gets traded and you snare him with a mid-round pick, it's a tremendous steal. Of course, if you take him and he stays grumpy in San Diego, it's sort of a waste of a pick. He's a safe choice starting in Round 8 or 9. We'll keep you posted on his news.

why is it always seattle wanting to do something? they already have their "fantastic" receiving corps in Housh, Deion, Mike Williams, Golden Tate, and Deon Butler.

I would think a team like Carolina would try to get him

Nice Scoop, Mudloggerone!

Interesting, that they only let him negotiate with one team. Maybe they want Vjax to get a peak at what other teams will actually be willing to pay for his services

.

I had him in my keeper league for an 8th round. I spotted this kid when he was a no body and nursed him along. I hope the lil' turd sits out the year since I "had" to drop him as a keeper.

This on PFT: Suspension could end up as 6 games, not three.

he has three games for his behavoir issues. However, he has officially been placed on the roster exempt list. So He has to show up to SD or whoever he is traded to by Sept. 4th. If he does not, then he can have no contact with any team until after his 3 game suspension. Thus the three game hurt due to the roster exempt list would not start until after his three game suspension.

Net, if V.J. is not dealt before Sept. 4th. OR he continues his hold out after Sept. 4th with S.D. He will miss at least 6 games.

What a mess.

PFT said:
Unsigned Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson will miss the first three games of the 2010 season because of a league suspension. When it was confirmed this weekend that he was officially placed on the roster exempt list, we asked the NFL to clarify how this coincided with his suspension.

Here's what NFL spokesman Dan Masonson told us:

1. Vincent Jackson's three-game Substance Abuse suspension begins once the final roster reduction takes place [6:00 PM ET on Sept. 4].

2. Jackson is ineligible to report to the club during his suspension.
3. As per the CBA's restricted free agency provisions, if Jackson reports after his suspension begins on Sept. 4, he will be ineligible to play for an additional three weeks following the date he actually reports. The CBA's restricted free agency provisions state that once a club has notified a player of its intention to place him on the roster exempt list, the player must remain on that list for three games following the date on which he actually reports to his club.
All right. This essentially means Jackson will miss three or six games if he plays this year, but not in between. If he reports to a team before Sept. 4, he can serve his suspension and use up his three weeks on the roster exempt list at the same time. Otherwise, he can't start his roster exempt clock until his suspension is over.

This clarification puts even more pressure for the Chargers to trade Jackson by Sept. 4. If he's not dealt before then, he will have to miss six games this season, lowering his trade value.

If Jackson stays put, he'll have to report to the Chargers by the eighth week of the season or he'll lose an accrued year of NFL service.

It's getting difficult to imagine Jackson playing for the Chargers this year, and it also doesn't make sense for a trade to happen after the season starts.

If a team like Seattle wants Jackson, they should make the move soon or move on.

So what happens if he reports to the team by week 8 and then walks off and doesnt return? Im assuming all that matters is the fact he reported to gain his year.

Normally he would have to be there by week 10 I think. To get the 6 games in to get the season to count for FA ratings.

However, if he has three games he would miss, it would have to be week 7 he returns. Otherwise he won't accrue the time needed for FA I believe.

Also no, he has to be on the active roster for 6 games to accrue the year of eligibility.
