Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings WR Sidney Rice (knee) wrote on his blog Wednesday, July 15, that he worked out at full speed without his knee brace for the first time in 10 months and felt no pain.

could he be one of the primary late round sleepers?

That really remains to be seen. Rice has been what Phicinfan likes to call one of the "potential' guys that have shown some potential at times but has never come through. Rice could be a nice sleeper but it will take a lot of training camp intel to tell the tale. Berrian is fast, so is a healthy Rice, but Percy Harvin is also blazing fast. Rice will need all his former speed back to beat/ hold off Harvin. In most 10-12 standard FF leagues it takes a good #2 WR to have any real impact on your team. Number #3s usually don't make the grade normally. Rice has been one of the usual sleepers most years a #2 WR that hasn't really impacted your team much fatasy wise. This year he has to be a riskier pick as a sleeper especially if you are drafting anytime soon. Until we see some T Camp feedback and some preseason action we won't have any idea if he is the #2WR or the #3WR. Minnys #2WR might be nice to have but will it be Harvin or Rice. If it is going to be Rice he will have to be good enough to beat out Harvin and as a result will probably be good enough to impact your team. When you find this out he will be a decent sleeper candidate.

Of course, as stated earlier this sort of analysis is based on standard size legaues, in bigger leagues his value is a little higher.

I like Rice as a late round pick, with the understanding that Favre is going to eventually sign.

Not discounting coach's comments about the #2/#3 Wr's but with Favre at the helm I think the ball will be successfully spread out to make it worth the gamble.

I agree totally, I was pontificating on the situation as it is now. If and when Favre actually shows up give Rice a bump up the charts.

I will disagree. Because I don't think Rice is the #2 wr on the team. To this point he has not been able to consistantly stay on the field. I don't have faith that will continue.

With Favre on the field...I think Berrian, Wade, Shiancoe and Harvin getting the most looks...not Rice.

You have much more confidence in Wade than I do. 7 seasons and he has done nothing to distinguish himself as a better player than Rice.

I'm thinking Shiancoe may have plateaued (is that spelled right??? One of those words where even if it is, it doesn't look it). I don't expect a collapse but could see a dip.

Depending on how they utilize Harvin I could see him having more opportunities/overall yardage than Rice simply because his will not all be receptions. I do expect Rice to end up with more catches than Harvin though.

With the countless articles... indicating it is all but a given that Favre will be there I have taken the attitude that it is simply a matter of time. I have added him to the Minny roster with an asterisk next to his name.

Without him I don't know if I would be targeting any of their receivers and in that situation Shiancoe's value does get a bump.

I don't see any future for Wade of Rice myself.

Berrian will be opening the field and a FF WR#2 at best. Harvin working under neath could be a WR#3 maybe with some big games and some invisable games. Rice and Wade are passing options #4 or #5 after the TE on a run first team. I'd be looking for other options myself.

Rice has now started running with no brace and said that he feels 100%. This is occuring at a WR camp in Minnesota host by Fitz. Among the wide receivers that have been participating are Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall, Buffalo Bills WR Lee Evans, Green Bay Packers WR Greg Jennings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton, Minnesota Vikings WR Sidney Rice and Cleveland Browns WR Brian Robiskie. Washington Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall, New Orleans Saints CB Malcolm Jenkins, Pittsburgh Steelers TE Matt Spaeth, Arizona Cardinals TE Dominique Byrd and St. Louis Rams LB James Laurinaitis also are attending the camp. Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo may attend the camp next week.

The WR instructors include Jerry Rice and Chris Carter.

Pretty solid corps there.
