Time for Alex Smith to go

did you watch the game? smith played pretty well. yes, there was the fumble, but gore fumbled twice as well and smith was driving down the field the entire 2nd half... it didn't look like you could lay this defeat at least at smith's feet. i haven't watched the other games so i can't say anything about them.

singletary was pretty out of line stringing smith out like that though. he was a real tool.

Gore's two fumbles, fumble recoveries are choice pointage, with one returned for a TD made the Eagles D a Super D for this week. Pulled off three wins for me Yesterday.

Eagles D :thrash:

Problem with Smith is he keeps making the same mistakes over and over. No doubting that he has talent, but the fumble that was returned for a TD was plain horrible and he should know better by now. That's what Singletary was pissed about. Actually, I like the fact that he called Smith out and I liked the fact that Smith yelled back and then came in and got a couple scores. Reminds me a bit of Steve Young in 94 when he went off on Siefert for taking him out of the game against Philly in a blow out. Young went from a talented QB to a leader that day. Hope for a similar turnaround for Smith........

The idiots who were yelling for Carr last night better be careful what they wish for.............

Your right E, Carr is a grease fire....now Troy Smith on the other hand ;)

The problem with Smith is you can't look at glimmers of light and call it a lantern. He plays like shit until Singletary yells at him and (I'm assuming) threatens to bench him then he comes out guns blazing all "OH SNAP! TOUCHDOWN! TOUCHDOWN!" but it's always too late. And if it's not too late, he does something to mess everything up, like throw an interception with 30 seconds left when you're down 3 points and in field goal range. I say leave him in for the rest of the season and guarantee our #1 overall spot in the draft so we can snatch up Andrew Luck.

I agree with efactor...I think Singletary is a good coach and I would have done the same thing. That fumble by Alex Smith was plain old dumb and careless. As an NFL starting QB, you should not make mistakes like that. So Singletary called him out on it and look where it took Alex Smith, he led a TD drive on the next drive he was in. Yes he threw another INT at the end of the game but he had to force it because they had to score. I think he needs a couple more games before you can push for his backup qb role.

Ok, maybe not in field goal range lol, for some reason remembered them being closer. But still, INT with 30 seconds left.

actually the drive after singletary called him out, smith went 3 and out. the crowd was booing and smith looked like he was about to cry...

i was just wondering why, when the run was working so well the entire game, they suddenly completely dropped it when smith was having trouble (not complaining here btw, very happy that they did because the eagles D was decimated by injury and probably wouldn't have held up as well). i realize they were down by 14 but there was still time on the clock. it seems to me singletary told him off, tried to shove the blame onto smith, and then hung him out to dry with the play calling (yes, on his second chance smith came out firing and looked good. still it was a very tough few minutes)

but of course this is the first 49ers game i've watched in a while, and of course i understand the fans being pissed if smith pulls this crap all the time. i remember the rodney peete years in philly...

I certainly did watch the game. Did you?

Smith is a consistent loser who makes the same mistakes over and over and over and over again. I can most certainly lay this and many other defeats at the feet of Alex Smith. Singletary did what he had to do.
