SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Texas State has fired football coach Brad Wright after the Bobcats finished 4-7 and just 1-5 in the Southland Conference.

Athletic Director Larry Teis announced the move on Monday.

Texas State currently plays in the Southland Conference of the Football Championship Subdivision but recently accepted an invitation to join the Western Athletic Conference in 2012.

Wright was 23-23 in four seasons with his best mark at 8-5 in 2008.

Given the fact Texas State is about to undergo a major upgrade in facilities, add 32 schollys, and move to FBS competition in the WAC, I think this is the right move to make.

Texas State will recruit very well at the FBS level, especially given its high ratio of female students to male students, the location, atmosphere, and so on and so on.

Larry Coker is building UTSA, also headed to the WAC, and I think TSU will make a play for a bigger name coach to lead them to the future.
