Texas A&M to SEC Rumors

With the fury within conference over the pending Longhorn Network, rumor has it Texas A&M is giving "strong" consideration to joining the SEC.

Further Rumor has SEC Commissioner Mike Slive willing to take the Aggies alone and run with 13 teams in the short term.

Personally, I think the Aggies would get the crap kicked out of them, becoming the second Vanderbilt of the SEC, but this would be a great move to get a stronger footprint in the Houston market for the Southeastern Conference.

Great move for A&M, that would give would be Texas recruits (either school) something additional to think about. The recruiting classes would greatly improve given this situation.....in my opinion.

I disagree. For years LSU and the rest of the SEC West have wanted a stronger footprint in Texas recruiting, and all this move would do is give Texas recruits the knowledge they could play close to home for a major football power. All this would do is move Texas recruits to the SEC and kill Texas A&M on the football field.

Lets play with this a bit and put Texas A&M on the field with this years LSU schedule:

vs Oregon - Loss
vs Northwestern State - Win
at Mississippi State - Win
at West Virginia - Loss
vs Kentucky - Win
vs Florida - Loss
at Tennessee - Loss
vs Auburn - Loss
at Alabama - Loss

vs Western Kentucky - Win
at Mississippi - Win
vs Arkansas - Loss

5-7, and two of those wins coming against creamy competition. Im also giving them the benifit of the doubt against Mississippi and Mississippi State. 6-6 is not the bar to shoot for when you think you are a player in the college game. A&M does have a rabid fan base, but they dont have the staff, budget, or facilities to truly match up against the heavyweights of the SEC.

Arkansas left the SWC thinking they would be able to continue to strongly recruit Texas, and they ended up losing their Dallas foothold to Oklahoma. As with the Hogs, I say again A&M would easily lose that Houston foothold to LSU.
