Texans RB Steve Slaton: Time To Worry?

Ok, I am not sure what the deal is here. But he hasn't run for all that much yet. He has 3 fumbles and they are making him carry a football everywhere he goes and fining him if he loses it. The coach said maybe they should have gone after Benson when he was a Free Agent. Sounds mostly motivational, but.......

I agree. It's time to worry. I don't think he will put up numbers like he did last year again.

Why is everyone so panicky?

Who would you rather have than Slaton?

LT?.....Lewis?....Parker?

No....wait....Since you seem to be a sucker for recent stats, I'll give you Hightower for Slaton.....DEAL?

Way too soon to give up on some of the 2 game disappointments. If you have to bench them then do it, but don't throw them away.

Just my opinion.

I told you he would be shut down the last two weeks. Give it a bit of time. Plus you paid too high and would have to sell too low.

I'm being told the same thing about Forte... two weeks into the season isn't the right time to get trigger happy on the drop button. Even Michael Turner didn't show up to play until late in game 2.

I'm not a very patient team owner myself, but give him another week or so. If you're not comfortable, move him to your bench until he proves he's dressed for the party. But don't let go of him just yet.

It is something worth watching.

I will say something that I always say, yet constantly gets downplayed. and it is often the reason for a sophomore slump. We always have rookies that step up and perform better than expected. Once the season starts, it is next to impossible for defensive coaches to prepare for these guys. Give these coaches an offseason to break the film down though, and if there are any flaws, they will be found.

Perhaps Slaton got through last season with a flaw in the way he carried the ball. Just saying.

Now it is time for he and the Texans coaching staff to figure out a way to fix that flaw, and hopefully, Slaton doesn't become so obsessed with this issue that it effects his natural playing ability.

And lets also not forget, Houston has had to go up against two of the top defenses in the league.

Hey, nobody said anything about dropping him. He is going to be the man there. Brown is the backup and while he can come off the bench and make some nice contributions. But that is about it, he hasn't been able to carry a full load yet, so Slayton is pretty safe.

Who are you talking too?

If you are talking to me, Yes, I would take LT over Slaton for this season. Who said I was a sucker for recent stats? I have never been high on this guy which is why I stayed away from him and let everyone else draft him as early as he was going.

I would be concerned.

Look, it's one thing to play against a tough run defense but it's a whole different story when you look really bad on the field.

Chris Johnson played a very tough Pitt defense in the first week but he still looked explosive, fast and found ways to pick up yards. Hitting the holes with authority, vision was still there.

The thing that bothers me most about Slaton and Forte is that they look terrible right now. Both are averaging 2.0 and 2.2 YPC...that is a downright shame.

Slaton - Bulked up during the offseason and has lost a step. Has all of a sudden come up with fumble-itis as well. Worst of all, Kubiak is showing no signs of confidence in him. It's a good thing the Texans are a passing team, I wouldn't be surprised if they completely abandoned the run some weeks.

Forte - Watched both of his games and it kills me to not see this kid cutback at all. He's hitting non-existant holes headfirst...could be attributed to the O-line but the vision and quickness I saw last year is not there.

I like Forte to bounceback as I think he has more raw skill/talent than Slaton and Lovie says they absolutely need to establish the run. They are not built to pass all game...

This is a huge weekend for Slaton/Forte owners as both have favorable matchups...let's see if they can step up when owners needs them most. No excuses this weekend...

I was concerned immediately when they said he wouldn't get goal line carries. I'd be kicking myself for taking him instead of a RB like Jacobs but he (and others) haven't done much either...

I got Slaton in the mid to late 2nd round of fantasy leagues this year and thought it was a steal. Turns out I might have been making a really dumb pick instead. We'll have to wait and see. I'm going to wait a few more weeks before coming to a conclusion about his value.
