Houston Texans Running Back, Steve Slaton, told fans via his twitter account that he's "back." Slaton had off-season neck surgery in January but appears to be ready to start Training Camp in a few weeks. If he is fact ready to go full bore at the start of training camp it will really stir up the RBBC pot in Texas.

Of course S.Slaton is going to say that, Slaton is feeling the pressure to get back even if he is not 100% with A.Foster and B.Tate waiting in the wings.

Good Point by Derringer. This is what you would want to say right now. And it is easy to say at this point as OTAs are already over so you don't have to prove it.

This is one of the TC situations to watch very closely.

This does need monitoring by most owners/drafters especially if you generally assemble a strong WR corp early in the draft. If you load up on WRs early then you will probably looking to get RBs in RBBC situations just because That may be all that is avaliable when you get around to it. All 3 of these Texan backs could be very productive if given the chance. The problem is you can take a shot on one of them and if he is odd man out it hurts but it is not a death blow to your team. If you grab two of them you increase your chances of having the "man". But then you have a heavy investment in that Texan Running Back By Committee. But you have to also consider that not one of these guys will be the man all year long. Just because one wins the starting job it doesn't mean he will keep it. If you have watched the Texan coaches over the last few years they don't hesitate to pull a RB who is ineffective. They will yank a guy and use their 3rd string back if they think it provide a spark.

cbssports.com,
Steve Slaton has been a full participant in the Texans' training camp from the start, proving that he's recovered from offseason neck surgery to repair nerve damage. The Texans have given Slaton reps at running back, mainly in passing situations, but he's also been returning kickoffs in practice according to the Houston Chronicle. Head coach Gary Kubiak is happy with the progress Slaton has made. "I've been impressed by the way he's been working,"Kubiak said. "We we have him back there working as a kick returner now. I think he's himself. He's got his confidence back. He enjoys being out here. I think that's important."

Analysis: The Texans' backfield might be headed for a three-headed mess this season between Slaton, second-year back Arian Foster (who is working with the first-team offense) and rookie Ben Tate. Only Slaton seems locked into a role as a backfield receiving option on long non-first downs. That suggests he'll catch a decent amount of passes but might not load up on carries, including at the goal line. Slaton's a nice reserve option and a potential sleeper in case one of the Texans' backs in front of him gets hurt, but he's not going to deliver huge stats. Think middle- to late-round pick on him.
