New Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips confirmed that Mario Williams will not be asked to stand up in his 3-4 scheme. Williams will remain a pass-rushing defensive end. "He comes off the ball so well with his hand on the ground I don't know that you'd ever want to stand him up," Phillips said. The former No. 1 overall pick is entering the final year of his contract, but we're still expecting a small drop-off in production in the new scheme.

That's good news for Williams and for Phillips.

I agree, a few less tackles from an IDP point of view. But a lot more actual game impact as a down lineman. Nice to see Wade utilizing a player according to his talents and not forcing Williams in to a certain D scheme.
