Stock Up: Saints RB Pierre Thomas

Beat writer Mike Triplett expects Saints RB Pierre Thomas to lead the Saints in carries this season.

Speculation, but a pretty good one. The Saints only had 4 picks and the Draft and went D and special teams all the way.

Dynasty Owners of Thomas had to have a big post draft smile on their faces.

Redraft wise he is still bunched with all those RBBC RBs that now make for three rounds of productive RB depth in most smaller leagues. But even there he should probably be pushed up toward the top of that bunch.

Of Course, Saints RB Reggie Bush is still around and should be productive as well.

Im glad to see the Saints have finally seemed to figure out what they have in Thomas. He runs with power and attitude. That offense needs a physical presence in the backfield. I knew Reggie Bush would never bring that, but years later, when you say the name Reggie Bush, I think of Sheldon Brown knocking him back into his sophomore year of HS.

I don't know what to make of the Saints running game. Not only do they have a RBBC, but they are a passing team with a RBBC.

With that being said, New Orleans is still 1 of the most high powered offenses in the league. The only problem is the level in which the fantasy points get spread out.

You guys do realize that PJ Hill was signed by the Saints as the bruiser and short yardage back they have been looking for. P.Thomas will still get the carries, but not looking good for the goalline carries.

P.Thomas stock is down - even though some beat writer is trying get the value up to dump P.Thomas is his fantasy league

PJ Hill was about to get his spot taken from him at Wisconsin for a reason. I dont think Thomas has anything to worry about.

I'm a big Pierre Thomas fan. I've been saying he's more talented than Reggie Bush as an NFL running back ever since the end of the 07' season.

I must admit I like the way Pierre Thomas runs myself. He has that look of determination that you just feel when you see him play.

Until the Saints commit to an actual running game I think Bush will still have the biggest impact on the game due to his involvement in the passing game. If Bush is healthy, he'll be on the field IMO.

Pierre Thomas did catch the ball 32 times last year. I'd say that's staying pretty involved in the passing game for a RB who has to compete with Reggie Bush for receptions.

but almost 1/2 of those catches came in the few games where he wasn't competing with Bush at all or Bush was very limited. If they are both healthy Bush is the primary receiving threat in the backfield and will get those opportunities.

Thomas has proved to be valuable and will see an increased role i would guess. But I think bush is still the primary weapon. With being injured and banged up the 2nd half of the year he still had 50+ receptions.

Thomas is a nice talent, and better actual running back IMO, but looking at everything Bush brings to the table and Peyton's offensive philosophy It's my opinion that Bush is still the more valuable weapon in that offense unless they change something on that end. Bush was fantastic last year in ppr leagues prior to the injury.

In ppr situations, I was a much bigger fan of Bush while Duece was still the primary ball carrier. Pierre is more versatile and hungry. I feel both of these backs might cost more than I want to spend this year, with Bush still being a 1st corner to early mid 2nd rounder. I will be watching where PT falls in mocks very closely.

i think he'll probably be taken too high in a lot of leagues just because of the potential in this high powered offense . . . he won't be a late round flyer like last year . . . lol . . . i expect he'll be gone by the end of the 3rd in basic leagues . . . i like how thomas runs and plays, but i kinda think the threat of the passing game opens up more lanes for him, and even moreso when bush is on the field too . . . if bush is the only back in the backfield, he's got at least 1 guy, if not 2 dedicated to watching him alone . . . if thomas is the only back in the backfield, defense's are more keyed into what bree's can do to them . . . i'd be comfortable with thomas as my 3rd rb, but not quite my 2nd . . . at this time, i just don't feel like he'll give me 100 yds and a td each week, ya know . . . ;)

I would only add what you have written between the lines.

Thomas' success is directly tied to the health of Reggie Bush. Players that can catch Reggie aren't all that well designed to bring down Pierre.

-- Saints Discuss Edge, But... --
Wed May 6, 2009 --from FFMastermind.com
NFL.com reports the New Orleans Saints have held internal discussions about pursuing free-agent RB Edgerrin James, but they most likely will wait until after this weekend's mini-camp before re-visiting those conversations, GM Mickey Loomis said. “There's been talk about Edgerrin James, and we've spent some time evaluating that prospect,” Loomis said. “We'll continue to do that. We haven't made any decision or closed any doors on acquiring another running back if we feel that's something we need to do. We do feel a lot better about what we have in-house than people do outside of our building.”

Another one came out stating it is unlikely Edge hits Nawlins' and they were doing due dilligence.
