Steelers WR Mike Wallace: First Round Tender??

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers are willing to let restricted free agent Mike Wallace test the open market. The Steelers will reportedly place a first-round restricted tender on Wallace and "see what develops." If he "signs a contract and they deem it too high," they will apparently take the first-round compensation instead of matching. Once unthinkable, it's now very possible the Steelers will let their 25-year-old No. 1 receiver walk instead of digging themselves into an even deeper salary-cap hole.

There probably be several teams that will make offers as:

A. They would love to have Mike Wallace.

B. If they can't get Mike Wallace they would want to make the Steelers pay as much as possible to keep him.

Interesting move by the Steelers......

Hines is probably happy about this. He has a better chance of staying if Wallace leaves or doesn't ask for too much money. I think its crazy though. I can't imagine the Steelers without Wallace. This kid is just getting started. There WR core does need some restructuring before next year but this is not the answer

Holy cow...Wallace leaves what does that do for Mr. Brown? Does he move up the depth chart? Is it the Brown/Sanders show with Ward still on the field?

Brown and Sander's value skyrockets. Wallace will be gone if the steelers do this. They are in cap hell, and at only a first round pick, there are some teams down toward the bottom that may pull this trigger. How about Philly....and letting Jackson walk :wow: Just a thought...

Eagles would have a great shot. Get rid of a diva and replace him with Wallace.

In the same division the Ravens first round pick is # 29.

Pats have two first rounders.

oh my... cutler would looove to have this guy (sorry chucky i know you got that trademarked)

I see him as a decent fit with NE and NE's 1st rd pick is #28 I believe so that is not giving up to much but the pats are not gonna want to spend the kind of money needed to get Wallace i would think

why deal with Welker if they plan to try and steal Wallace?? Doesn't make sense to me. It would be a huge fit for NE, but no sense dollar wise

I'd love to see Wallace ripped from the Steelers hands. There will be quite a few interested teams is my guess.
