(KFFL) Pittsburgh Steelers OT Willie Colon (Achilles') is expected to have surgery on a torn Achilles' tendon Wednesday, June 30, reports NFL Network's Jason La Canfora.
(RotoWire) It is confirmed that Colon has an Achilles injury, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Analysis: Kevin Colbert, the Director of Football Operations for the Steelers, confirmed the injury. Colon is still undergoing evaluations by the medical staff, so whether or not it is a tear and requires surgery (and thus sideline him for the season) has yet to be determined. This would deal a blow to the offensive line and the return to the run game as Colon is one of the better run blockers on the team.
(RotoWire) Colon (Achilles') will be placed on injured reserve and miss the 2010 season, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Analysis: The Steelers will make the announcement after Colon's surgery Wednesday. We'll have to wait until training camp to see what moves the team will make on the line. Trai Essex could be shifted to tackle and allow rookie Maurkice Pouncey to start at guard. As well, the team is currently looking at free agent Flozell Adams to recover some of the depth they lost this week (rookie tackle Chris Scott is expected to be out until the start of the regular season).
Pittsburgh Steelers rookie OT Chris Scott (foot) is scheduled to undergo foot surgery Wednesday, June 30, and will miss about three months, reports Gerry Dulac, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
This is a pretty big blow to the Steelers. This is arguably their best offensive lineman on a line that is not that great to begin with. So they are without their starting QB for 4-6 weeks, traded their big play WR and are already down their best OLman and it's still only June......not looking good in the steel city.
It sounds like the rookie Scott may make it back just in time for the regular season. But that is hardly ideal going with a rookie who had no camp time.
Confirming n0rm's earlier post, rotowire,
Steelers placed RT Willie Colon on injured reserve with a torn Achilles' tendon, ending his season.
They replaced him on the roster with 29-year-old journeyman Adrian Jones, a recent UFL draftee. The Colon move isn't a surprise, but shouldn't soon be forgotten by fantasy owners looking to bank on Steelers offensive skill players. Colon was easily the club's best blocker during the 2009 season. Jul. 21 - 4:33 pm et
