While Nose Tackles are getting franchise tags elsewhere the Steelers went more long term, re-signing NT Casey Hampton to a three-year, $21.3 million contract. The team announced the signing, confirming KDKA-TV's report. The Steelers did well to lock up Hampton to a below-market deal for a premier nose tackle.

Likely his final deal with the team given his age. I think the 7 mill/year for this deal is much better value than the 7 mill that many teams are having to give their "franchised" DT's.

From his days as a Longhorn:

"The way I see it, you never know when your last play is going to be, so you should go hard all the time. There's no reason to take a play off.."

5 time Pro Bowler. 2 time Super Bowl Champion. Great football player.

He's easily a top-5 all-time lineman for this franchise, which says something when the top-2 are Greene and Greenwood.

Pretty smart stuff from what I am reading. $11 million guaranteed money with $6.5 million, which is less than a Tag, signing bonus up front.

Outside of the one season when he showed up really bad out of shape, he's been a model player/citizen and one of the best 1st round picks we've had in the past 2 decades. Although I sincerely hope we start looking at his eventual replacement in this draft, I'm very pleased with this signing.
