The Redskins are giving "serious consideration" to releasing Albert Haynesworth by Saturday, a source tells Chris Russell of ESPN 980 in Washington.
Russell's source says there's a 75 percent chance that the Skins will make the move. It's worth noting that ESPN 980 is owned by Dan Snyder, but ESPN's Adam Schefter firmly maintains that Haynesworth will not be released. It would be the culmination of a season-long clash between Haynesworth and coach Mike Shanahan, who essentially benched the controversial defensive tackle in Week 13. The Redskins paid Haynesworth a $21 million bonus this offseason, and have only used him as a situational nickel rusher.

Bye bye chubby.

Hard to see that happening after they gave him the bonus. But he is doing almost nothing on that team, and is getting way too much money for it.

Will be interesting to see what his next contract would be though. I sure hope neither my cowboys or raiders touch him, he's got talent, but he's a total douche, I wouldnt want him on my team.

Haha, I wanted to say he is like TO.

But in the one defense of TO, even when he was ripping my cowboys apart from the inside. The man gave effort on the field. In 3 years in dallas, he had 10 or more TDs EVERY YEAR!

Contradicting an earlier report, the Redskins do not plan on cutting Albert Haynesworth, sources tell the Washington Post.
ESPN's Adam Schefter, who has close ties to Mike Shanahan, also reports that the 'Skins will not be giving up on Haynesworth. Big Albert has easily been Washington's most productive defensive lineman on a per-snap basis, but Shanahan hasn't been able to set aside his ego and use Haynesworth as a key part of the defense. He was essentially a healthy scratch in Sunday's loss. The Redskins proceeded to allow Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw to go off for 200 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. By the end of this season, the Redskins will have paid Haynesworth $36.5 million for two seasons

Well now...there is this...hmm...

Omg!! All those debates about overpaid and what not in the hangout!

How can this bum be making 35 million+ to just bitch and moan like a baby!! "But I dont like this defensive scheme!! I dont care if you paid me millions of dollars"

Unbelievable. But after his signing bonus, was always going to be tough to cut him

For all of Haynesworth issues, this is not all his fault. Shanny decided to let his ego do the talking, and thought he could control and make Haynseworth behave. That won't happen. Shanny needs to step back, and tubby needs to step up.

Since neither will happen......nothing will change.

I disagree! Shanny is the HC!! Haynesworth took $21 million in bonus knowing that the D scheme would be CHANGING!! This is 100% Haynesworth's fault! If he did not want to play this scheme, he shouldnt have taken the bonus and should have asked to be released!!

It is not up to the HC to make you feel all happy & wanted. It is up to the HC to set up a scheme that you think will help your team the most. It is up to the players who are getting paid to PLAY to that scheme!

What happens if Shanny backs off Haynesworth and your another player on that team? "Oh, I dont want to play special teams, I am too good a player." Then what? Shanny now has to hug that guy?

Grow up Haynesworth!! And good on Shanny for NOT backing down! (Although I am a cowboys fan, so I hope Haynesworth stays there forever eating their money)

ASHBURN, Va. -- Phillip Daniels has some stern words for Albert Haynesworth.

The veteran defensive lineman choked up Monday morning when talking about the latest Haynesworth distraction in the Washington Redskins' disappointing season.

Haynesworth was inactive for Sunday's loss to the New York Giants after an illness limited him at practice Friday.

Daniels says he hasn't missed a practice all year at age 37, even though he's been sick lately. He says Haynesworth hasn't fully grasped the concept of team, and that Haynesworth could be the NFL player of the year if fully committed to football.

Daniels says he has been through 15 seasons and hasn't won anything, so "if I can come out here and do this, don't tell me that you can't do it."

I have to agree with him.

Ok, stop it.

I would like to keep some reality here.

first it has been documented, that Shanny met with Haynesworth, and told him they want him still, and would like to keep him. That they would pay the bonus to him and find ways to utilize him. Then he did nothing but call Haynesworth out, and then push him to fail.

I don't blame Haynesworth for taking the money, I blame Shanny for not knowing better and NOT paying.

Yes, I am one who rails on players who have contracts and don't play and sit out. At the same time, there have been numerous examples of where the NFL team has screwed the player who has done this. By not guaranteeing the contract and length.

It is business. As such you play to win, but sometimes, if you let your ego take over...you screw yourself. This is that case.

Haynesworth was playing like crap, was being a total douche, and Shanny is the HC! He has EVERY RIGHT to call him out!!! Thats what a HC does!! What was he supposed to go??? Go over and give him a big hug and a kiss on the cheek, and say "its ok baby... I am here for you!"

He is the HC! Any time you have a job, it is a business! But you still have to suck it up and do your job!! Everybody gets called out! Does not mean you can just mope around and NOT do your DAMN JOB!!

Redskins suspend Haynesworth 4 games without pay - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Haynesworth is a joke! I would never want him any where near any team that I root for. But I will take Shanny any day as HC for my team. Shanny has won before, what has Haynesworth done that he deserves any special treatment.

When Owens does this, he gets blasted as being a team killer, Haynesworth does it and apparently its ok??? Gimme a break!! Screw you Haynesworth, and your attitude (But since your on the skins and im a cowboys fan, pls continue to destroy that team from the inside, and send Shanny to coach my cowboys, ty!!)

Okay, you want to ignore reality, you can.

At no point did I, nor do I exhonerate Haynesworth. However, EVERYONE knew what he was, and he made it very clear he does not fit in a 3-4 defense. Shanny talked to him, and paid him...and then he is surprised he is what he is?

I call a spade a spade....they blew it by paying him the bonus. Period. With this year as uncapped, they could have dumped him, dropped the salary and not paid the bonus. Win/win for them. Nope...not egomaniac Shanny.

In my opinion, they deserve each other, AND what happened.
