-- Vikings Players Lobby for Favre to Return --
Tue Jan 26, 2010 --from FFMastermind.com
The Pioneer Press reports Vikings teammates of QB Brett Favre lobbied on Monday for him to return and play in 2010. After Sunday's loss, Favre reportedly told ESPN's Ed Werder it is "highly unlikely" he will play again. Favre, 40, came out of retirement to join the Vikings the week of their second exhibition game in mid-August. He was widely considered the missing piece to Minnesota's Super Bowl puzzle, and for 18 weeks — and to the surprise of many — he played like it. With the best statistical season of his 19-year career, he led the Vikings to a 12-4 regular-season record and their first conference title game in nine years. Favre set career records for quarterback rating (107.2), completion percentage (68.4) and interception percentage (1.3) while passing for 4,202 yards, 33 touchdowns and a career-low seven interceptions. Perhaps P Chris Kluwe said it best: "Why wouldn't you want him back?" But HC Brad Childress had to work hard to get Favre to play for the Vikings this season. Though the quarterback signed a two-year deal worth $25 million, including $13 million next season, he seemed ready to finally call it a career on Sunday after rallying the Vikings for the tying score in the fourth quarter. "He already knows we want him back," said WR Bernard Berrian, who led the Vikings with nine receptions for 102 yards on Sunday. OT Bryant McKinnie even said the team would be OK with Favre missing training camp again. "I think everyone just wants him here for the season, come in like he did this year," McKinnie said. "Just having him part of the team, I felt, helped elevate everyone. I feel like everyone stepped up and played at a higher level, and he was part of the reason."Tue Jan 26, 2010 --from FFMastermind.com
