Coach Tom Cable indicated Monday that Chaz Schilens may need to undergo surgery to repair a knee injury.
The knee problem developed due to Schilens' overcompensating for the foot injury that has plagued him since last summer. Cable suggested that Schilens could return for the opener if it turns out to be just a scope, but that's overly optimistic. It's time to take Schilens off redraft cheat sheets. He won't help the Raiders early in the season. Louis Murphy, though, enters the picture as the late-round flier of choice in Oakland.
