Sgt John
Sith Lord of T&A
Rest assured I wont be getting waived from Sports Outlaw..and I damn sure wouldnt turn down a free catered meal, But Im not Randy Moss.
On that note, Id like to thank the many of you who read my weekly rag.
Now on to business!
The AFC East -
Miami - Im loving Dan Carpenter kicking 5 FGs a game as much as the next guy, but you wont win most games kicking FGs (Just ask the Texas Longhorns). Davone Bess has become a must play in PPR leagues, even out pointing Marshall last week. As I say most every week, this team is going as far as Chad Henne will take it, which right now isnt going to be to the endzone enough to see the post season. Next up for the Phins is the Baltimore Ravens..where 5 FGs may be total offense of both teams...
Buffalo -Continues to find ways to lose. Granted, KC played turnover free ball, but Fluffylo had how many chances to win the game? The D certainly shot its wad for the year keeping the Chiefs under 35 points. Dont blame (or quit starting) Ryan Fitzpatrick (223 in the air, 43 on the ground). The guy did just about everything he could to get this W. Where the hell is this CJ Spillar guy we heard so much about?
NY Jets - Momma said there would be days like this. Just a poor, poor job by the Jets offense. I think this was a case where the bye week actually broke the Jets momentum. Still, they gotta dust off and keep going. Up this week is a trip to Detroit to meet a young and hungry Lions team. I think its a safe bet this week the Jets will play with ruthless agression and over power Detroit. Id also call this a week to start both Greene and LT if you own them.
New England - The Pats nearly finished off Brett Favre for us. The Law Firm scored two TDs against the once feared Vikes D, and Danny Woodhead continued showing us why he should be the lead back in the Pats spread offense, scoring yet another TD. Anyone else cry for not starting Brandon Tate? I sure did. Next up the Patriots head off to play the Cleveland Browns, and to be honest I dont see the points explosion some do.
AFC North -
Pittsburgh - Its not often the Steelers hold a team to under 35 yards on the ground and lose, but they did this week dropping a game to the Saints. Every once in a while one just gets away from you, and Ill chalk this game up to that, though I probably would have handed off more to Mendenhall with him picking up over 4 yards a tote. This is just a speed bump on the Steelers road to the playoffs, and I expect them back on track this week laying the wood to the Bengals on Monday Night.
Baltimore - With a week to iron things out, the Ravens return to the field this week against the Miami Field Goals. Ray Rice had a pretty bad week headed into the bye, so it will be interesting to see how the carries are laid out against a pretty decent Miami defense. Feel free to start Boldin this week, and with Karlos Dansby lurking...keep tabs on where Ed Dickson is if you are a Heap owner.
Cincinnati - Another big game by TO, another loss by the Bengals. Palmer completed less than 50% of his passes. Overall the Bengals either cant or wont put out the extra effort to get the W each week. The difference between 0-4 and 4-0 this past month? 8 points or less. Next up? Pittsburgh. So yeah...0-5 on the horizon......
Cleveland - Great win headed into the bye, so Browns fans felt good for almost two weeks, something they never get anymore. Im not sure who will start at QB this weekend against New England, but I dont think Mangina has the stones to go with Colt McCoy. Expect to see Peyton Hills, right, left, up, down, and any other direction they can hand him the ball, and lots of it.
AFC South -
Houston - Houston beat Indy by running the ball down their throats in week 1. Week 8 brings them a team missing 3 highly productive starters. Arion Foster averages almost SEVEN yards a carry in this game, yet they only hand him the ball 15 times. I have no idea why the Texans didnt just stick to pounding the rock. Yes, Im aware what the score at the end of the 2nd and 3rd was, but a 7 yards a pop you HAVE to keep running the damn ball. Maybe had they followed this mantra from the word go the deadly pick 6 wouldnt have happened. Next up for the NFLs worst defense is a game against the Chargers......so start Rivers people.
Titans - Blew the game against the Chargers. In such a tight divisional race, the Titans really needed to take the gift SD was going to give them.
Still didnt see much for CJ2K, and how funny is it that Jeff Fisher should probably stick Kerry Collins in the game on obvious passing downs...like say a 3rd down QB. Kenny Britt burned at least half your asses this week didnt he? Dont worry about it, as his hammy is bad enough he may end up on IR. The Titans have a merciful bye week, so keep an eye on any injury info you can get this week out of Nashville.
Indianapolis - If you havent picked up Jacob Tamme, you better get on it. Im starting to think the Colts could trot out Milli Vanilli and throw for 300 yards. Looks like the run game is in real trouble with Hart, Addai, and Brown all injured headed into this week. Keep an eye on the injury reports, and dont be afraid to give a sniff to Jarvaris James in a pinch, because someone is going to have to tote the rock at least a little bit given Indy plays at Philly this weekend.
Jacksonville - Kicked Dallas' ass all over the place. Dont worry people, this wasnt a "breakout" game for the Jags and they didnt "finally" put it all together. Dallas is really that bad this year. Still, MJD finally gave us a game worthy of his lofty ADP, and how many of you cried leaving Garrard on the bench? I know I did. I expected more Deji Karim, but overall this was probably the best the Jags will look all year. Next up is the bye week.
AFC West
Kansas City - "If you start nothing but Bills and Chiefs this week you should score in the 1.50's" Forgot that decimal point last week Still, many of you really benifited from the Chiefs needing 75 minutes to keep Fluffalo winless, but tell me it wasnt exciting just the same! This is the first place I thought of when I heard Randy Moss was going to get waived. The Chiefs could use him and his chemistry with Cassel. Thomas Jones had another nice game, but was slightly overshadowed by Jamaal Charles picking up over 230 yards. Next up is the Oakland Raiders...a game that should be VERY interesting.
San Diego - Continued their comedy of errors this week, but managed to beat the Titans. Naanee and Floyd are still hurt, and VJax wont be here until the end of November. This is still a very muddy fantasy sitation past the play of QB Phillip Rivers and TE Antonio Gates. Mike Tolbert sure has torn up all you Ryan Matthews owners this season. All that said, this week the Chargers face the NFLs worst defense (Houston Texans). I dont know who the hell Rivers is going to throw to, but he should still go for almost 400 yards.
Denver - Tim Tebow scored his first overseas TD. Other that that, the lack of a solid run game is really hurting the Broncos. Moreno did next to jack shiznit, though Orton did continue his top 5 fantasy season throwing for 369 yards in the loss. Another week, another monster game for Brandon Lloyd. Denver is on a bye this week, so plan accordingly on the waiver front. If you need that coveted high pick next year, sell high now on Orton and Lloyd. Never know if they will look this attractive again.
Oakland - "There is a good shot the Raiders will beat Seattle at home this weekend" And whip ass they did. The Raiders finally followed up dominence with more dominence, just another sign theyve turned the corner in spite of Big Al. DMac is a friggin force on the field, and the Raiders even coaxed a rare catch and score out of Droppopotamus Heyward-Bey. The Raiders are no longer a joke, so rejoice 007! This week the Raiders have what is their most important game of the year to date, and Id say the most important one of the last several year, a showdown with KC...and a chance to take control of the AFC West. DMac and Charles are going to put on a show for us all this week people. Dont miss it.
NFC East -
Dallas - "Marion Barber pick up game checks at the rate of 6 yards a week." Well I was close. This guy needs to be benched. Dallas is finished, but I still cant blame Kitna for the loss last week. Im pretty sure you can blame his recievers for 3 of those picks, and overall he did throw a TD, go for nearly 400 yards with no run game, and completed near 75% of his passes. Id stay with Kitna if you are using him. Next up for the Cowgirls is a Sunday Night beatdown by the Green Bay Packers.
Washington - I love this! McNabb is too much of a fat ass to run the 2 min offense, and Sexy Rexy returns long enough to keep his consecutive seasons with a turnover streak intact. The Rat then endangers every cheeseburger in the DC area bringing in JaMarcus Russell to work out! What a cluster! In news that matters, keep an eye on the status of Ryan Torain headed into the bye week, and remember the name James Davis.
Philadelphia - We should see Mike Vick under center as the Eagles return from a week off to face the Colts. The real story here, to me, is did the Eagles find some heart on the bye? Will they finish plays with pride and work like professionals, or will I see an Indy DB score a TD more off Eagle laziness than anything else? Keep an eye on the status of DJax, who still hasnt passed his mandatory concussion tests.
New York Giants - The Giants are back after the bye and facing off with the Seahawks. Over the past month, the Giants have turned into one of the most violent defenses in the league, and I dont see that trend stopping against the Hawks this week. Start Nicks, Manningham, and Smith with confidence as Eli may breach the 350 yard mark this week.
NFC North
Chicago - I havent heard much out of the Bears during the bye, which likely means they didnt fix any of the problems. Chicago returns this week to head off north and face the Fluffalo Bills. If this were any other team playing Buffalo Id sign off on all the skill guys, but given Chicago's propensity for Epic Fail of late, I only recommend starting Johnny Knox (the only guy who can catch) and Matt Forte (the only guy who runs) this week.
Green Bay - Took advantage of the other teams failures for the second straight week in a 9-0 win over the Jets. Not really much to say about this win, other than it was a big one for the race in the division. They really needed this one. Next up is Sunday Night Football versus Dallas, ie the primrose path to a big victory. Keep an eye on the status of Donald Driver headed into this game.
Minnesota - Brad Childress is a dumbass. I understand Randy needs to shut the hell up, but still, you dont throw away a 3rd round pick. Harvin - Livid. Wilf - Livid. Those two alone should be enough to finally show Favre and Childress the door after the season. Harvin owners, your run of glory is officially over with no one to draw the coverage away...well after this weeks game against the Cardinals, who dont cover anyone.
Detroit - "Im still calling the Lions upset this week." I called this two weeks ago. Right on Lions! Suh looks every bit the beast we thought he would be, the Smith/Best tandem looked good, and Stafford survived the game to start again this week. These are the flashes of solid football I expect will be the norm for the Lions in the coming years. Solid, Solid victory. Niiiiiice 37 point day for Megatron. Lets hope for you owners sake we see more days like this out of the Tron. Next up is the NY Jets....and yeah..no upset pending this week......
NFC South
Tampa Bay - I finally leared what to think of the Bucs. They are a pretty damn good team for being so young. One punch ran wild over the Cards. Josh Freeman completed passes to 10, yes TEN different WRs, and Mike Williams continued his dominant year going over 100 with a score again. We will find how this week just how good this team is as they face off with the Atlanta Falcons. Beat them, and I might believe.
New Orleans - I wont take anything away from the Saints in what was a good and unexpected win over the Steelers. I will say they need the PT Cruiser back in a BAD way. Chris Ivory has done jack since his breakout game a couple weeks back, and Reggie might be out longer than Week 11. New Orleans gets Carolina before the bye, so good timing there. With after bye games against Seattle, Dallas, Cincy, and St Louis the Saints should be 10-3 headed into a December 19th showdown with the Baltimore Ravens. By then Bush and PT NEED to be back and running.
Atlanta - Had the week off, and this week face the Tampa Bay Bucs in a midseason tilt they really need to win. At the midway point of the year Roddy White is still almost the best reciever in fantasy and still has nothing drawing coverage off him. Jason Snelling should be rostered in all leagues, and pay attention to the health of Michael Jenkins entering the second half, as he could be a good pinch pickup if you need it.
Carolina - Great job! 4 more turnovers and a loss to the Rams. Waiver wire gem WR Gettis lost 11 yards on his only touch of the game. Not that DWill would have made a difference, but JStew picked up like 15 inches rushing all day long. Carolina is just horrible. Next up is a date with the New Orleans Saints. Expect Drew Brees to carve up the Panthers with ease.......
NFC West
San Francisco - I will wait a week to say the 9ers found a QB, but Troy Smith certainly brings a nice dimension to the offense Alex Smith never could, and I say run with it Singletary! Another nice game by the top back in fantasy, Frank Gore. Back to Smith, he gets a bye week before facing the Rams in Week 10. If you havent picked him up yet in dynasty leagues..make the damn pick up! Could be gold people.
Seattle - Laid an egg against Oakland. The Hawks abandoned the run game against the Raiders and Hass responded with completing a shade over 40% of his passes. Despite this, the Hawks still lead the NFC West by a half game. Also, stop dropping John Carlson from your dynasty teams people. With the ups and downs at QB he is going to have bad games, but the guy still has talent. Next up is the New York Giants. This one could get ugly for the Hawks.
Arizona - I admit it, I had to start Max Hall this week, and overcame it to win. Fitz and Breaston owners both finally had a good day. There is still the talent on the offense to be good, but the Cards have to settle on a QB, and then have that guy lay off the interceptions. The run game continues to be a mess, and the defense sucks. I expect the Vikings to crush the Cards this weekend, but I have a hunch you should start LaRod Stevens-Howling. Dont know why.
St Louis - If you havent heard Danario Alexander had more knee surgery, so drop him. Sam Bradfords growth continued, with over 75% of his passes hitting the targer. The patchwork WR corps made the plays, and SJax ran for the tough yards. Solid win for a team who is a surprising 4-4 and just a 1/2 game back from Seattle at the halfway point of the year. Next up is the bye week, and I personally think its coming at just the right time for the Rams.
Those are my random thoughts for now. Feel free to throw in yours
