Re-Birth on the Bay

For a half now the 9ers have shown the country that they didn't much appreciate being maligned and have played lights out defense against the Rams in week 1. Mind you that I realize that the newly crowned L.A. Rams aren't exactly the cream of the crop on the offensive side but their defense is supposed to be! Right? Not so tonight, for a half, against these "Throw Back" 49ers. Hats off to their team for an almost perfect half of football and by golly it's great seeing the San Francisco 49ers playing defense again.

9ers get the shut out. Rams may be looking for a new home soon if their offense keeps looking like they did tonight. It's going to be hard to put fans in the seats to watch that trash.

Coming at you
Record may not be great this season, but they are heading in right direction. Building both lines and the defense. Skill position players next.

Well coached in every facet last night. Total 180 from last year.

True enough but many including some here were expecting the Rams to run them out of the building. That did not happen.

Yes, but we were all clearly misinformed about the offensive capabilities of the Rams. That thing looked like a shipwreck in slow motion...you see what's about to happen but can't do a damn thing about it!

Rams D is where I felt mislead. Seriously thought they had a solid unit.

Rams D was solid! Take a look at the stats.

They gave up 170 passing yds on 35 attempts. That's great!
They allowed 3.6 ypc which is pretty good.

The problem was the Rams O only converted 4 first downs in the entire game and had 2 turnovers. It's kinda hard to expect the D to flourish with production coming from the O like that. First game of the season I'm sure many of those guys are still working their way into full game shape as most only played a quarter or two in the preseason.

The D is still solid but if the O can't get them some rest by sustaining a few drives here and there they are going to be worn out in the 4th qtr of every game! If you watched the game you could see they were pretty stout early on, in fact they only gave up 14 pts through the first 3 quarters. Gave up 14 in the 4th and you could clearly see their demeanor was defeated by then and they were dragging butt around the field.

Their off season schedule was a thing straight from hell just about as bad as the year of Katrina was for the Saints. I expect them to play better ball but changing QB's must be a high priority.
