The Baltimore Ravens placed offensive tackle Willie Anderson on the reserve/retired list, the team announced Wednesday. The move likely means the 13-year veteran and four-time Pro Bowler has played his final game in the NFL.

Anderson has struggled with knee injuries and could not participate in the team's mandatory minicamp last week. He was due to make $3.5 million this season. By putting Anderson on the reserve/retired list, it saves the Ravens approximately $2.94 million in cap room, while the team still owns his rights if Anderson decides to return to football.

Replacing Anderson will be rookie first-round pick Michael Oher, who took all of the snaps with the starters in last week's minicamp. Anderson, 33, spent a dozen years with the Cincinnati Bengals, including one playoff appearance in 2005, before signing with the Ravens last season.

Oher better step up fast.

Too bad about the knee problems. Skilled lineman usually have a couple decent years left after age 33.

Man I didnt like the Draft of Oher I wanted a linebacker but as always the Wizard of OZ knows all and knew Willie was hurting so I think we will be OK

Is there any chance of what was keeping him out of practice resolving itself in time to present him with a viable option of chaning his mind?

Its possible, and he can be reactivated off the list, but chances are he's made his money and this move is him wanting to be able to walk somewhat normally.

He could also "take a year off" without hurting the teams cap and come back.

You may be right but I was thinking that he reported to camp (even though he could not participate) because he was willing to return if necessary and was able.

Reports on the Cincy stations is he is done. Big push here to honor him at Cincy's home opener......he deserves it! Class guy, great player, should get some consideration for the HOF at some point IMO, though probably will not get enough support.

Great Career Willie! Enjoy the retirement!
