When I was young, I remember watching one of those "Football Folly" tapes over and over again. It had the piece on it about Joe Namath and the "magic bean" that was narrated by Sterling Holloway (a.k.a. Winnie the Pooh) and it was just so weird that I loved it. I would watch it over again.
About a dozen years ago, when I was learning to be an actual NFL fan, I remember watching highlights every week on Inside the NFL. I loved Nick and Len and Chris Collinsworth, true, but I was always mesmerized by the clips in between with Harry Kalas narrating them and making them seem like the coolest thing ever.
And a few years ago, when the finally got NFL Network at my parents's house, my favorite show has always been America's Game. One of my favorite parts of the Saints winning the Super Bowl is when I knew I'd get to hear the opening notes of that theme and know they were going to talk about my favorite team ever.
I just wanted to share a few words about how NFL Films, helmed by Steve Sabol, really had a huge part in creating one more crazy, devout NFL fan, and I'm very sad to hear he passed away today. RIP, Steve.
