Projections for Felix Jones

Ok, before the season officially gets started, I would like to see everyone's projections on this player, because frankly, I have been reading around all off-season, and I am just not understanding the projections.

Barring injury (not going to target him as injury prone after one injury), I am seeing this guy as quickly becoming "the running back" in Dallas in very short order this season.

In terms of projections, I am seeing the guy get projected at 600-800 total yards, and 4-5 total td's by the sites I look at.

I am really trying to step back and take my homer glasses off here, but I think we are very likely looking at 1100 and 10 with this guy, with the celiing being potentially much higher.

I guess where I really run into the problem is the continued high projections for Marion Barber. It seems every NFL fan fell in love with this guy due to his hard running, while letting the fact that he has no discipline in his running style go greatly overlooked. During the offseason, it seemed people were really paying attention to the negative aspects of Barber, but now that the cards are on the table, this guy is once again being projected as one of the top running backs in the league. In reality, I think Barber finds himself becoming that change of pace running back again, only this time, it will ultimately be behind two running backs, and losing much of the red zone opportunities that made him valuable.

So, am I on this island by myself? if so, that is ok :nannie:

You may not be on an island but I'm not buying your "Felix For President" campaign.

Dallas is a very talented team with a meddling nut-job owner and a coaching staff full of yes men.

Felix could be all that you say he is but he is not one of "Jerry's Kids" yet. Barber steals the show again this year, whether he's any good or not. Romo will again be forced to try and be Tom Brady II no matter how successful the running game is and Witten will be force fed the ball at a ridiculous pace.

Go Cowboys.

Explain the "jerry's kids" comment.

Throughout the offseason, Jerry Jones has said that he feels Felix Jones should start. And don't forget the Arkansas connection. Jerry wanted Felix on this team. He set his sights on getting either DMac or Felix in a Cowbos uniform. DMac was clearly at too high of a price (though many true razorback fans will tell you that Jones was the better back), so Jones pulled the trigger on Felix.

rushing wise, I see in the 600 range with 5-7 TD's. However, I feel they really work him into the passing game much more and he'll add around 45 rec for 400 yds and another 3-4 TD's.

First I hope the Cowboys aren't stupid enough to totally take Barber or Choice out of the equation. The NFL is a copy cat league, but not just to copy. Too many teams realize you NEED two rbs and if you can get them Three rbs to handle the load, and extend the career. I love the speed and ability of Jones. He can be a killer....but to me what makes him even more special is when he is changing the pace of a bruiser like Barber.

Assuming Barber remains the starter and bull, and F.Jones can stay healthy:
I see rush yards of 800 with 7Tds, and I see receptions in the 40-50 range with another 400-500 yards and 4-5 Tds.

It seems to me the best way to use these 3 is to let Choice be the work horseback, and give the tuff, short yards to Barber. Save Jones for the big stuff. Spread him out everywhere, and get him the ball in space.

I now realize that Barber can't handle his job. I will not back down from my contention though, that Julius Jones was never the answer. I see Choice as that blue collar guy that could do it, and do it well, though he ain't perty enough and won't get the chance.

I see Felix at 1100 combined and 7-8 Td's.

I own Felix Jones in 2 out of 4 Redraft leagues

I don't doubt his talent one bit, I just hope the opportunities present themselves.

Gee, it must be football season. Mike is starting his MBIII Is Garbage Campaign. :thrash:

If you read my article (and haven't banned me yet) I'm in the Felix camp. I can't find any reason outside of injury that he doesn't go for ~1k yards rushing and another 400+ receiving with 10 total TDs.

Exactly right Ram. Won't even bother mentioning Julius Jones situation at the moment. I am all for Barber being a closer and not seeing the knock Mike is trying to paint here. I think he can be a starter , I think he will be just as dominate as a closer. There are no comparing seasons, the roles changed each of the past three years. Choice is an excellent RB but he is his back up till he does get a starting position of his own or an injury. Frankly it wouldn't hurt to see this dead horse stay dead. Felix doesn't replace Barber he compliments him. In the end any three of these running backs would still bury Julius.

Any thoughts on Felix Jones becoming the next Tiki Barber? There have been comparisons made before and they are pretty compelling.

Barber's no slouch in the passing game, if memory serves. I don't see anywhere near the reception total some of ya'll have thrown out there, but he (Jones) profiles well as a 3rd down specialist, a la Leon Washington. Also like Washington he should see ample return opportunities which adds to his value in leagues that award return yards/TD's.

800 total yards from scrimmage with 6 TD's seems about right, plus his return contributions.
Choice will move into MB3's role should injury befall him, then Felix's receptions would get into that 50 range.
