Pre Season Week 3

Reggie Bush has 7 targets, 5 receptions and 103 yards. Not a bad game for a RB!

Kenbrell Thompkins continues to shine. 8 receptions for 116 yards. Pre season flash in the pan, or the real thing??

Carolinas D/ST went nuts tonight! Two pick-6s, a fumble recovery for a TD, and a punt return TD.

Torrey Smith was invisible. 1 target, no catches. This guy feels like hes either going to have a 50 yd TD or 2 catches for 18 yards.

Ray Rice had a better game this week. Decent yardage and he found the end zone. The YPC is still pretty pedestrian though.

Greg Olsen led all Carolina receivers in targets with 7. Only hauled 3 of them in for 44 yards though. This offense wasn't exactly on the field much with the defense doing all the scoring though.

The Carolina ground game was atrocious. The RBs had 22 carries for 55 yards.

It was an even better 1/3 game for a RB.

Probly flash, but time will tell.

I have them in about 10 "draftmaster" leagues. They spent their first two draft picks on defensive linemen, so, more sacks, more pressures, more hurried passes (more interceptions); plus Ted Ginn returning kicks... Looks like a win for me!

They were trying out the 4 or 5 guys vying for the #3 role more than anything. Tandon Doss was horrible, and missed an adjustment that resulted in one of those pick-sixes. Brandon Stokley looked the best in the slot with the first team--3 of 3 for 43 yards. Dallas Clark (yeah, I know he's a TE) shouldn't even make the team, dropping two passes right in his hands.

The Carolina ground game was atrocious. The RBs had 22 carries for 55 yards.

They took a good long look at Tauren Poole, feeding him 15 carries, but he only averaged 2.4 yards per carry, and less than 2 yards per carry on the 14 carries that din't go for 10 yards. I still like Kenjon Barner as a dark horse here--2 carries for 7 yards and 1 catch for 10 yards--but all in the opening half with the first team.

While tonight was an amazing showing, I'm not sure I would jump up and down in excitement just yet. The NFC South might be the worst division to own a defense in. With 25% of their schedule being played against New Orleans and Atlanta, you've got a large portion of the schedule filled with some pretty high powered offenses that could hang some serious points on them. New Orleans was the #3 scoring offense last year WITHOUT Sean Payton. Atlanta was #7 and they've added your boy Steven Jackson. Even Tampa Bay came in at #13 in scoring last year. in 2012, the Panthers allowed their divisional opponents to hang anywhere from 27-44 points on them in 5 of their 6 contests. In 2011 they gave up anywhere from 30-48 points in all 6 of these divisional games. Im not saying that they can't turn it around and find all those defensive scores this year, I'm just saying to maybe temper expectations. This unit has been awful within the division in recent history. Maybe their youngsters can come in and make a difference.

The Panthers ranked 18th in points allowed last year and were the #22 D/ST in fantasy scoring. They've got their work cut out for them to crack into the top 10 in both.

First I agree with Monger, the D-line for Detroit is just scary. That being said, their def. backfield is really questionable.

Carolina defense looks really good, Keuchly is just a stud in the middle. But it seems every year injuries kills this def. So mark me as a I will wait and see.

Baltimore finally showed some reliance on rice, which is great to see an an owner in one league.

I worry for the pass game, and not sure Flacco will repeat his success from last year.

Reggie will be the PPR beast he was in N.O. it looks clear here to me.

Is it me, or is the O-line for NE really not that good. Brady owners beware.

Barner now has foot injury as well, its why he left the game earlier than expected. I have him stashed in a dynasty league, hope this isn't lysfranc again

I know, and Carolina has like the 27th most difficult schedule for a fantasy defense for all the reasons you named. Still, the way the scoring is for defenses, most teams aren't going to come up with a shutout or even allowing less than 6 points to their opponents, so most defenses are going to score between 1 and 4 points every week for points allowed (meaning they allowed somewhere between 7 and 29 points to their opponents)--so that's just not that big of a factor. Sacks, fumbles, INTs, TDs--THOSE are where the D points will be coming from, and like I said, I think Carolina added the personnel on the D-line in the draft to pressure the opposing QBs of those passing teams they face, causing more sacks, more QB fumbles, more INTs, and more opportunities for pick-sixes. Then you have Ginn returning kicks--always an opportunity for a score.

Besides, no one else is drafting them (well, until last night, anyway), so I could always pick them up with my last pick in the 20th round (usually as a backup to the Arizona D) while filling all my other needs first.

I think maybe the Raiders' second team is better than their starters.

Hope Rod Streater is ok.

What was up with Eddie Lacy's numbers to tonight? I didn't see the game, but looks like he was very ineffective in the small amount of carries he received.

Backup Oline against Sea #1 (- injuries) D. The only run he didn't get hit behind LOS was an 11 yd gain called back for holding. I thought he looked Okay given the circumstances

Plus he was credited with a seven yard loss because he made a heads up play and recovered someone else's fumble.
