Pre-season Week 1 notes: Ryan Mathews tops the list.

Dr. Daniel Kharrazi, an independent orthopedic surgeon, says SD RB Ryan Mathews is more likely to miss six weeks than four with his collarbone fracture. Reports actually vary about the recovery time. Banged up in the first pre-season game owners were drafting him higher and higher based on reports of a "ton O carries"

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins QB David Garrard (knee) said he will be undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery and is not sure when he will be able to return. What I am reading, small cleanup job, 2-4 weeks. Matt Moore may well start the season now, Garrard was leading the competition.

KMBC 9 Kansas City is reporting that unsigned franchise player Dwayne Bowe has reached an "agreement" with the Chiefs about his contract dispute and is currently en route to team headquarters. He was spotted flying into town today.

FA RB Cedrick Benson is in Green Bay. Reports vary as to if he has signed yet

Bucs RBs Blount and Martin both get TDs in game.14-0 lead. Tannehill trying to ignite a 2nd 1/2 comeback. Stopped on a 4th and 1......... Later Tannehill leads a TD drive closing the gap to 14-7....seems to have a nice rapport with Pruit. Bucs Micheal Smith returns a KR to the Dolphins 27 leads to a FG as The Bucs go back up 17-7. Tannehill puts on another drive that stalls as Carpenter misses a 51 yarder as the 3rd Quarter ends, 17-7. Blount in an interview says how happy he is with the Guard they stole from the division rival Saints. Bucs 3rd stringer Ratliff is leading a nice time -consuming drive to open the 4th quarter, resulting in a 28 yard FG and a 20-7 lead. Both teams seem pretty sharp on O, nothing spectacular, but efficient-looking.
Ryan Tannehill completed 14-of-21 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' preseason opener against the Bucs

Thanks for the thread Coach. Bad two days here with storms, damage, and loss of internet...and shingles, and trees and ---and---and. However the Fish and eye rode out dis stoam in dis master closet.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi has left a preseason game against the Detroit Lions with a head injury. Not a good sign.

Left guard Travelle Wharton hurt his right knee during Cincinnati's opening series and left the field on a cart, the start of a series of injuries to Bengals starters.Middle linebacker Rey Maualuga and defensive end Carlos Dunlap also left the field with injured right knees during the following series, costing the Bengals three of their starters in the opening 5 minutes of a preseason game against the New York Jets.

- A federal judge questioned the fairness of the NFL's bounty investigation of the Saints, then held off on making any rulings while urging all sides to settle the matter on their own.
U.S. District Judge Ginger Berrigan also said the season-long suspension of Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma was excessive and that she would be inclined to rule in his favor if she were certain she had jurisdiction to do so.

Jamaal Charles, on his first carry since ACL surgery on his left knee last September, took a solid shot from the Arizona cornerback right where the scar is. But he jumped up and hustled back to the huddle, helping KC score touchdowns on its first two possessions en route to a 27-17 victory over the Cardinals in a very satisfying preseason opener. Those who have invested in Charles already this year have to breath a sigh of relief as Charles continued to play in the first two series of the game and now has passed that mental hump of getting hit and being alright after it.

Packers linebacker Desmond Bishop badly injured himself in the team's preseason-opening 21-13 loss to the Chargers on Thursday, and at first, Green Bay was worried he had torn his ACL.The good news is that it sounds like Bishop actually didn't hurt his knee. The other piece of news is conversely as terrible. That's because, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette, Bishop might miss the 2012 season anyway with what could be a badly pulled or a torn hamstring.

San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh says the team will likely "dodge a bullet" after linebacker Aldon Smith left Friday night's 17-6 preseason victory over the Minnesota Vikings with a bruised hip.

WR Chad Johnson was arrested Saturday night for domestic violence in Davie, Fla. after he allegedly head-butted his new wife, Evelyn Lazada, during an argument, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

Packer RB James Starks is battling a turf toe injury and is considered week-to-week, the Packers' official Twitter feed reports.

Secret Injuries, you have to love them. Shula draft completed and owners had to pick Packer RBs based on lies. 3 SOFFL drafts nearing the point where owners will need to take chance on players we actually know nothing about.

I think this is worse than being advertised, otherwise they would not have gone and gotten Benson in my opinion.

from ESPN NFC North Blog
Finally, tailback James Starks has been diagnosed with turf toe and is "week to week," McCarthy said.

Starks' condition, previously unknown, goes a long way toward explaining why the Packers are expected to sign veteran running back Cedric Benson. Backup Alex Green remains on a snap count as he recovers from a torn ACL, and Brandon Saine has been sidelined by a hamstring injury. In short, the Packers are almost out of running backs.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Packers and running back Cedric Benson have officially come to an agreement on a one-year contract.

Vikes RB Adrian Peterson is off of the PUP List and took first team starter reps in his first practice.

The few story lines I got out of the first preseason week was
- Randall Cobb is a total stud!!
- Manning, DTom, Decker, and McGahee are not only draftable, but probably all undervalued, and I still feel Moreno makes noise before injury.
- Luck will likely allow fantasy relevance in Indy for Brown, Collie, Fleener, and Wayne. He is also a nice #2 QB. (Brown is a great value #3 RB)
-Starks sucks, and was not prepared.
-RGIII is gonna aid fantasy stats in Washington and Helu and Royster will backup Hightower, until he is injured again.
-Vick scares the **** out ofme on every snap as an owner.
-Hillis will have double digit Td's
- Keep your eyes on Ryan to Julio, and Flacco to torrey, both great non-ppr Wr's.
-The Eagles had 14 guys with receptions??? ( the Bucs 15!!)
McCoy would be better than the Older Weeden this year for the Browns.
- Kevin Smith willeasily lead all Lions in yards and rushing attempts.
- The 49er's had 10 guys RUSH the ball!??!
- Locker wins the job in Tennessee.
- .....and the Rams are still real bad!
- Blount isn't gonna just rollover for Martin.

You mean Tennesee?? I agree!

I think Mike Bell and Wally Lundy were preseason fantasy studs too. Nothing much comes out of week one that I get excited about.

That said, just watching Luck, you can see he will be special. Does all the little things right. Flawless mechanics. The next Aaron Rodgers.

I thought Weedon looked fine. Threw the ball down the field on target, which I like to see. The one fumble wasn't really a fumble. He has what it takes. McCoy is a career back up.

I think this is the year the niner O-line gets mentioned with the leagues elite. Jacobs looked trimmer and quicker and I actually like the signing now. Gore, Hunter, Jacobs and James give them a lot of different looks which will open up the passing lanes. I see a totally different offense this year.

Julio will be great in PPR or non. Agree with Smith being more relevant in standard scoring.

Also, wouldn't be surprised if Thorzien is the true back up if Smith gets hurts and misses time. They love him. Guess he is a good leader who takes charge. The DBs in SF are calling him mini Brees. I had never seen him play until this week and was very impressed. Johnson may not make the team.
