PPR Question

A little feedback if you fellows have some time.

I have decided to play one of the high stakes FF contests and have run into a scoring rule I haven't come up against prior. TEs get 1.5 point per reception. Start one mandatory, but there are two flex positions where you can use a TE and they also score 1.5 per reception when started in the flex. How early would you be gobbling up the top TEs? The earliest I would normally consider one, would be round 3, but the 1/2 point difference is huge with the 80 plus catch guys, so I'm considering grabbing two early, but not sure how sane this would be. Don't want to be hurting other places.

Staring lineup requirements:

2 RBs
2 WRs
TE
QB
2 Flex
K
D

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I think this makes Gronk and Graham solid rd 2 prospects and possibly even first turn candidates. Not sure I would go nuts in trying to get 2 early, but I would likely take a high upside back up in the middle rounds a little earlier than I usually would if the value looked good. It also makes the lower rd guys more draftable late as flex plays and depth. You may want to look at a 3rd TE over that last shot in the dark WR.

Good advise by Miller...... keep and eye out a little earlier. Maybe go a little more often, grab a backup TE before going for a third WR?

On the flip side the league may overvalue Tes and you may find value at other positions. I would possibly bump te half a round for the increased production.

I agree here, but would add, that makes value picks like Witten and Gates move up a round or so as well IMO. Heck, Hernandez from NE could be solid value as well a little earlier.

Keep in mind, you're not the only one thinking this. Chances are, whatever "reach" you think you're going to need to make for TEs, it's likely bigger than you expect. When Gronk and Graham are both gone by pick 15, everyone is gonna panic.

Good point also, if it becomes TE mania you may be able get a nicer QB, RB or WR as a result.....elite slip.

Much appreciated.

Draft position will determine the early strategy of course. If I pick in the top half of the draft, I won't have to worry about Graham or Gronk since they will definitely not make it back to me. However, if I pick in the lower third of the draft, I would probably roll with Graham if he is available and would consider Gronk (not as confidant of a repeat this season as Graham) in the early 2nd.

I like the idea of grabbing a second, upside TE (Owen Daniels comes to mind) in say the 6th or 7th round if available. I have looked at a bunch of mocks that used 2 points per reception for TEs (can't find any with 1.5 per) and Graham is going as early as 6th and Gronk usually around 9th or 10th. All of the projected top ten TEs are gone by the late 3rd, early 4th, but that's with 2 points per reception, so the value isn't the same.

Thanks,

Thanks for the input fellows. This scoring for TEs and he ability to Flex a couple more is probably making me over think this, but need to get it right in my mind before I start putting a final game plan in.
