Potential Coaching changes in AFC

Again, lets do this by division...and see what we think.

AFC EAST
New England: 7-4 and on their way to another division championship.

Miami: 5-6 while a somewhat depressing result compared to last years playoff team...you still have to like how Miami has been rebuilding.

New York Jets: 5-6 Again, somewhat disappointing...if for no other reason than the start of the season. But I still think Ryan will do fine here.

Buffalo: Ding, Ding, Ding - our first casualty of the year. Who will they get for replacement? Had a llllooooonnnnngggg talk with Shanahan. Have contacted Holmgren, Gruden and Cowher. I actually like the rumor lately to come out on Shotenhiemer. This would be a great fit for Marty if he decides to go back to coaching.

AFC North
Cincinnati: 8-3 and have gone 6-0 in the division. Much to the dismay all around here, Marvin was at no risk of losing his job...but this will lock him up a contract extension for sure.

Baltimore: 6-5 and a disappointing year so far. But coach is safe.

Pittsburgh: 6-5 Same here...Tomlin is set.

Cleveland: 1-10 GM is gone...and team is a mess. I personally think Mangini is gone. Only time will tell though.

AFC South
Indianapolis: 11-0 Caldwell keeps the wheels going

Jacksonville: 6-5 Before this late resurgence, I would have bet this was a coaching change in the making. However, team has bright spots, and is working to improve..so I think Del Rio may get one more year.

Tennessee: 5-6 What a year. Go 0-6, make a Qb change, and suddenly win 5 in a row. I have ALWAYS been a Fisher fan. I think if the team can at least get to 0.500 he will keep his job. If not....who knows :dunno:

Houston: 5-6 to say this year has been disappointing is the understatement of the year. They have some incredible talent. But just can't seem to win the big games. Wins over Jacksonville this week, and over weaker opponents in St. Louis and Seattle could save Kubiak's job. However, continue to lose...and he maybe at risk.

AFC West
San Diego: 8-3 and leading the division. Much to my dismay and utter disappointment, I think Turner has saved his job again. I don't see them losing the division. However, this was the same team that fired a very good and successful coach in Shottenheimer since he could not win the big game. So who knows?

Denver: 7-4 Great start, then slump, then a much needed win. McDaniels is safe...but he has ticked off alot of people by forcing his plan in place. I think he is safe though, even if they choke again.

Kansas City: 3-8 and somewhat disappointing. Not sure anyone was really expecting a whole lot. But you don't go and spend what you did on a Qb...and then not build the line to protect him better, or get him the tools he needs. Still, considering what Haley inherrited, He has done okay. Casting off L.J. might have been his best move.

Oakland: 3-8 but big wins over Philly and Cincinnati. But really bad losses as well. I simply see no way Cable survives....if he doesn't go to Jail for assault. I think you see another bad change here...and more bad drafting. I won't even speculate on the next target...as they never get it right anyways.

Net, I am seeing probably 3-4 changes next year. We know Buffalo will change, and Oakland as well. But I really think Houston and Cleveland will change as well.

Time to update:

All looks good here. Buf. has already fired teh coach...but rest are fine. Not sure who will take over.

AFC North

Well, Cleveland has its new chief in Holmgren. I think the decision is still pending on Mangini. But the way the team turned it around could be a sign of things to come.

AFC South
Indianapolis: 11-0 Caldwell keeps the wheels going

No changes here. New GM in Houston, but a solid turn around saved the day in Houston. I also think the turn by Tenn, and more importantly Vince Young saved the day for Fisher as well.

AFC West

I think Cable is the only goner now. Turner and S.D.'s super turn around will save him. KC also turned it on some with some big late wins. So no changes there either.

Net, I am seeing probably 3-4 changes next year. We know Buffalo will change, and Oakland as well. But I really think Houston and Cleveland will change as well.

So, overall we will see 2 new HCs in the AFC. Buffalo and Oakland are a who knows situation. I doubt you will get a big time coach at either. Although, Buf. really needs a big time coach. Cleveland may yet make a change...but I don't think it happens this year.

Yea i don't understand why they are going to fire him.

He went against Al 'Vampire' Davis and benched Jamarcus Russell. Cable did what he knew had to happen to give the Raiders the best chance to win. Unfortunately for him, Davis has an entirely different idea of how to coach a football team.

Even in his advanced stage of senility, even big Al (the projector) Davis knows that J.Russell is better off riding the pine and will never be any more than a back up QB at best

(Rotoworld) Club spokesman John Herrera said Monday that the Raiders still have not decided the fate of head coach Tom Cable. Analysis: Owner Al Davis is continuing to toy with the media while hiring assistant coaches with direct connections to Cable. It's all but certain that Cable is coming back, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported three days ago. Herrera, though, said Monday that Davis and Cable are meeting "regularly" to discuss the future, just a day after claiming the Raiders never gave any indication Cable's job was in danger. Oakland's offensive coordinator job remains vacant.

Gut tells me Cable is safe. I think if they really wanted to make a move, it would have been done. The only caveat here is if something comes of the charges against Cable for the hitting the coach.

Then they probably will make achange
