Pitt Passing game

So Big Ben is off to a hot start and Hines Ward is leading the league in receiving yards! Can they keep this up? What about Holmes and Wallace? Where do they fit in? Then you have Heath Miller who is currently a top 5 TE, can he sustain this?

The Steeler passing game is one of the biggest surprises so far in this young season, can they keep it up or will they revert back to form?

It was leaked early in the preseason by a Steeler. I can't remember which radio show, or player, but the player stated that this was not a run first team anymore. The team really isn't capable of a sustained running game even with Mendenhall at the helm. The running game will be a by product of the pass. I don't think Ben will regularly throw for 400 yards, but feel close to 300 weekly will be the norm. The parts all fit together well and I feel that Miller is a very big part. Ward has been heavily utilized because all of the coverage has been concentrated on Holmes. This has really aided Wallace. Holmes's production will pickup some from here out as teams readjust things. There is plenty to sustain a few #1 Wr's, #1 TE, and a #3 WR.

Once again I agree with RC's post. I think the Steelers have become a pass first offense not so much by choice but because they can't control the clock on the ground on an average NFL weekend any longer. It's an especially sweet bonus for fantasy owners who stocked up on the Ben-Air receivers.

if this is the case, will they run into problems with this style of an offense as the weather turns to crap in Pittsburgh?

I guess we need to look at New England to see just how big of problem this is. Nice thing about bad weather. the offense knows where they are going. The weather gets bad, and you will at least have some fresh legs to carry the ball for you in the playoffs!

But do we really put Ben on par with Brady? And Ward and Holmes on par with Moss and Welker?? And even in NE, didn't Brady and Moss's numbers start to fall back some late in the year....

For now passing may be the way for them, but I have to feel that on a snowy 15 degree day in Pittsburgh that this team would revert back to the run in a hurry....

With two Super Bowls under his belt in his short career. He is a leader on par with Brady, in my opinion. What he lacks in passing precision, he makes up for in toughness. He is an elite QB who does it his way. When it comes to winter weather all teams, the pats included lean more heavily on their backs as the weather digresses. I do feel Mendy/Parker/Moore are better than Maroney/Morris/Faulk. Moss has freakish ability but it does shock me to watch him not even attempt to block downfield. Then I watch Ward. The two groups of Wr's are totally different but it is apparent to me they can produce similar results when you add it all up at the end of the season.

Holmes has dropped off in production some what but I don't think that will hold up. Ds are focusing on Santonio as the main man to be stopped and are doing a decent job of it. But it is backfiring also. Three weeks ago I was trying to hold on to a lead and was facing Ward. What I saw that game was Ward being wide open 8-10 yards down the field due to all the Holmes attention by the Chargers. Big Ben wizey just settled down to just playing pitch and catch with Ward all the second half. At one point he had passed to Ward 4 straight times, and I was freaking out! Both Ward and Heath Miller had 8 catches that game as Ben was just content to play pitch and catch with a wide open everybody else.
