JoeBryant,
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Dennis Dixon said he would like to work with the first-team offense during training camp because he believes he is ready to compete for the starting job while QB Ben Roethlisberger is suspended, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's John Harris. 'Everybody would like to take the first-team reps,' Dixon said. 'Once you get your shot, you want to show that you can get it done. I'm pretty sure there will be a point in time when that happens. It hasn't right now.'

OUR VIEW

Dixon's performance vs. the Ravens last year indicates that he does deserve a shot to beat out Byron Leftwich. He would also be a better fit at QB behind the team's porous line.

Everyone deserves a "chance" to start.

I just don't see Pittsburgh morphing into the kind of offense that would exploit Dixon's skill set.

They aren't looking for a future QB or a stallion to lead them to the promised land.

Just a guy to hold the fort for 6 weeks.

I'd take my chances with Leftwich.

Yes he deserves a chance. Hell if i was coach , i'd start the stay puft marshmellow man ahead of Lefty.

Dixon is the type of player who could gain a ton of value if he plays to his full potential. He would become even more valuable to a team where Dixon's skill set would play better.

If you roll Dixon out there and he plays well, he's not going to be your QB of the future, but you might find that you have a nice piece of trade bait down the road with him.

Byron is garbage. He has no value. He will gain no value.
