(rotoworld)Peyton Manning (neck surgery) returned to practice on Friday.

Manning's procedure was a minor one to fix a pinched nerve in his neck. Now healthy, he'll work with Clyde Christensen at coordinator while Tom Moore transitions into a consulting role.

Colts president Bill Polian expressed confidence Monday that the team will be able to extend Peyton Manning's contract.

"There’s probably some likelihood that that will happen," Polian said, admitting that the lack of a CBA is an obstacle. Manning was evasive about the situation on Friday. "No update there," Manning said. "I’ve never commented in the past on the contract and I’m not going to start now, 13 years into it."

13 years, now that makes me feel old.

Multiple league officials tell Yahoo Sports that the Colts' ability -- or inability -- to extend Peyton Manning's contract will be the greatest indicator as to whether the NFL and NFLPA can reach a new CBA.

"If Manning doesn’t get the kind of contract we all expect or, worse, doesn’t get a deal done at all, that really means it’s going to be war," one agent said. "There has never been a player with more leverage than him. No one. If he can’t get a deal done ... we’re all in trouble." The idea is that the Colts might balk at committing $50 million to a player who might not play all or some of next season. The Colts have yet to begin negotiations with Manning.
