Oakland RBs: Fargas, McFaddy and Bush

Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports the conventional wisdom is that at some point this season, the Oakland Raiders will phase RB Justin Fargas out in favor of RB Michael Bush. Bush, who has appeared to lineup at fullback at times during OTAs, could then join RB Darren McFadden in a two-back system. Both players would be threats as runners and pass receivers out of the backfield.

and yet, from the same source.

Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports the jury is still out on Oakland Raiders RB Michael Bush. In two big fourth-quarter appearances against the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Bush has carried the ball 24 times for 206 yards and two breakaway touchdown runs. If you remove those two huge quarters, Bush has 71 carries for 215 yards and one touchdown, averaging just 2.8 yards per carry.

I need to check, but I thought Fargas' contract was only extended for two years...if so then this would be the last year of it. I will have to see if I can find that information. IF true...that would make the above post make sense...and them getting ready to phase out Fargas for Bush

While I doubt Fargas gets phased out as fast as the pundits believe I do like Bush this year. His collegiate talent was unfreakingbelievable and is now 3 years removed from that injury. He showed some flashes last season which makes me comfortable taking a flier on him this season.

By phasing out I would not be surprised if that is accurate when applied to plans for the following season. I think he will be in the mix this year even if he ends up the #3 back.

This post upsets me. You can't eliminate two full quarters of work he got. What other opportunity did he have to run w/o sharing carries. Second, what was his role the rest of the time. Bitching about a 2.8 yard per carry average on a short yardage back is insane. We don't have many data points on Bush being the feature back, but the data points we do have point to him being pretty damn good. I feel like Bush has gotten screwed. He's never been given the opportunity he needs to make an impact. Trade him or play him. He would be a stud for several other teams. I understand why they didn't want him to go to SD, but if you like DMac and Fargas, shop Bush. He's too talented to be the 3rd string back.

finally found some, he was re-signed in 08. But can't find the length of the contract yet.

according to NFL.com, he only signed a one year contract in 2008. Is he a free agent then????

I also feel that Bush will certainly help the Raiders backfield and the signing of FB Lorenzo Neal was a great move, as for Fargas he will be the one to see less carries this season. Dont think there is much that can be said for last season as the team was a total disaster. Without a passing game the running game will suffer. The Raiders have the players in place, but the question is, will HC Cable be able to get things moving in the right direction and get the offense to gel as as a whole. Time will tell.

When they put in Garthia the offense will get moving. Until then Russell will be in there overthrowing receivers.

Garthia :gay2: :eek :rolllaugh:
I hope that Garcia will be able to help Russell learn to put some touch on his passes, without learning that the passing game is doomed from the start and the running game will follow.

Fargus is simply going to be the odd man out. Crazy Al will demand that Dmac gets his carries if healthy and Bush will prove too good to keep off the field completely. This will be a good 1-2 punch and I feel this running game will be undervalued and a nice source of fantasy production this season, just let someone else take Fargus. Get DMac in the 4th and back him up with Bush late.
