Not enough $$ to lock in Jimmy Graham

Poor Saints. Cash poor Saints. Locked into contract negotiations with Brees and with limited $$ available they are unable to seek a long term deal with stud TE Jimmy Graham. There's very little reason to even hope for such to happen in the Big Easy. Jimmy, picked in the 3rd round in the 2010 draft, will bank $540,000 for this seaon and then become an unrestricted free agent in 2014. Do you think he'll be giving us a hometown discount? Me either. After he watches Brees break the bank I expect his services will be available for the highest bidder. I'm already counting our losses. Sad, isn't it. Are we rolling down hill like a snowball headed for hail...

TE FT's are not that rich that they will not be able to use this to keep him around until a long term deal is reached. Rest easy, he will not become a UFA in 2014. He will get the FT just like they have done with Brees.

Forces the player into a corner. Either come up with a long term deal or be forced to sit out. Eventually, in most situations the long term deal gets done.

Speaking of Brees, the 16th has come and gone with no reported new deal. As I understand it that means he either plays for his tender offer or sits out the year. Is that correct Outlaws?

Never mind the above post. I had the wrong month in mind. The key date is July 16 not June.

Yep, its July chief

Graham deserves the money, but I agree, he will get tagged, and have to wait for the Brees deal to see what is left.

Brees MADE Graham a stud TE.

Brees can do it with someone else and Graham can leave and lose most all fantasy value.

Graham better be pitching in to get Brees signed.
