Yep, I posted about this during this summer. There are a lot of things that make this uncapped year pretty bad for the players. There will be all kinds of restrictions on who can be signed by who and what they can pay despite the lack of an actual cap.

Gotta admit the owners were geniuses. They're going to make this as painful as possible for the players so they'll cave quickly.

I think that the players need to realize the economic situation and that revenues and salaries cannot continue to rise. If people cannot afford to go to games, buy merchandise because they are either getting less pay or are out of a job, then need to know that salaries need to come down somewhat for their survival (players and league).

As a player you have to think...if I am to get a huge pay increase, where is it coming from? The fans are crying broke and people are losing jobs all the time. Think about Detroit especially. Those players surely must know that being in that city, they know fans are out of jobs. The Detroit Red Wings are even suffering and they always have a good team. People can't afford to to go games.

Eventually, things get too big and go bust.

Lions games are getting more and more empty. They are still charging top dollar to see the worst team. The owner is bringing the team down. But he had a great thing going for a while. All he did was spend little money on the team, have a horrible record, but still able to charge a lot for tickets and make tons of money. It is finally catching up with the Lions. I went to a game this year and couldn't believe how empty it was. They charge $50 something for a bad ticket and $8 for a 12oz beer. That is rediculous! You can go to a baseball game and buy tickets for $10.

As for the Red Wings, I love them, but have never been to a reg. season game. It's too far to drive and too damn expensive to buy a ticket to the game. With gas, food, beverages, tickets and maybe a hotel room it would easily cost me $300 or more just for myself.

You just can't do that anymore in this economy and still expect the events to sell out.

Exactly...right. The Red Wings are a great team, but the fans can't afford $300 for a game. It's the same here in Toronto...close to $300 with food, parking and ticket...actually sometimes more! Some will pay $500 just for the ticket alone...and the Leafs haven't won a cup since 1967!!!
