Carr reportedly agrees to deal with 49ers: Quarterback David Carr, an unrestricted free agent, agreed to a contract with the San Francisco 49ers, according to multiple reports. Carr leaves the New York Giants after serving as Eli Manning's backup.

a nice quiet pickup.

Word is that they want a back-up to Smith that has a stronger arm than Hill, so if Smith gets hurt, they don't have to change the offense. Makes sense in that Hill can't make the downfield throws that Smith can so the offense is vastly different when he is in the game.

Meh signing, but makes sense I guess............

I can see him starting by week 8.

Nah. Never thought I'd say it, but I think Alex Smith is turning into the player the Niners drafted him to be. It took a while, but then again Manning pretty much sucked his first three years and he's considered to be the best QB since Dan Marino.

Actually, there's something to that. If anything, Dan Marino's career was a disservice to quarterbacks across the league, because now everybody expects a QB to be that good as a rookie or they're automatically labeled a potential bust.

I haven't jumped on the Smith bandwagon yet and think Carr is a nice addition in case Smith does not pan out like I'm hoping he will.

I think Carr is gonna make a great backup to Smith. I'm gonna go ahead and agree, I think Smith is turning into what we wanted when we drafted him. Personally, I blame his shitty seasons on Mike Nolan and having a different OC every year.

Uh...haven't they had multiple OC's under Singletary? I know there was Martz for one year.

As for Smith. He might be finally catching on. It is one reason I hate the current NFL model that says young Qbs need to start early. I think McNabb and Carson Palmer and others did better since they were not thrust right into the starting mold up front. Smith may fit in that catagory as well.
