Move over Kolb, Pack QB Matt Flynn is starting to heat up the Off Season QB Market

Green Bay Packers QB Matt Flynn could potentially leave to become a starting quarterback for another NFL team, according to Dan Pompei, of NationalFootballPost.com. Teams in need of a quarterback are taking a good look at Flynn. The Packers believe Flynn is ready to start, but of course he's not going to start in Green Bay, with QB Aaron Rodgers in the fold. The Packers might be able to get a second-round draft pick in a trade for Flynn.

Would hate to see him leave the Pack. But he has looked good and is cheaper to get.

I'd hate to see him leave the Packers as well Coach but would love to see him get a chance. Personally I'd like him to stick around another year or two and get in those couple of games each season when Rogers gets his bell rung.

yeah, you knew this was coming when he did as well as he did filling in for Rodgers. Kid has heart, and in the right system, he could be very good. Not a game winner per say, but definatly a Flacco type. With all the hungry Qb teams out there, and the lack of draftable Qbs.....Kolb and Flynn will get some action I bet. I also think they can get more than just a 2nd rounder for Flynn. Maybe a 2nd and 4th or so.

Heart really describes the young man well during his playing days at LSU PhiCin. The kid would literally will the Tigers to victories in down right terrible situations.

From all I have read, there is no plans by Greenbay to move Flynn. Now, if an incredible offer was made I could see it, but with the CBA stuff, no deals can be made till new CBA is in place.

I think he is safe in GB this year.

Well the guy already has a Super Bowl ring, and he actually got to contribute to the team in an on field capacity and earn it. The trick here is going to be Rodgers brain. That thing takes another solid shot or two, and Flynn is in the driver seat of a war machine.

 which is why there is no way in hell that GB is dealing him. None.

This season is on the verge of getting really screwed up and QBs will be on the forefront. You might see some last minute big deals for these two QBs as soon as the CBA /season starts up. Would you rather overpay for these two vets starting with almost no time in the system or start a QB you drafted that didn't get any practice reps at all?

In a regualar year, yes I would overpay for these guys, due to the lack of talent of the Qbs in this draft. However, since we won't have a CBA, and you wont' be able to trade until you do, the drafted Qbs will be taken instead probably. that is the nature of this beast.

but if I ran a team, I would much rather have a Kolb or Flynn, than Newton or Gabbert. That being said, GB is NOT trading Flynn, even if they get offers.

I would agree with that Phic. I'd much rather have Kolb or Flynn than Newton, Gabbert, or Mallett.

i hear what you are saying, but i could honestly see the qb's dropping in the draft . . . if scouting reports have any truth to them at all, none of the "1st rounders" are starter ready and even the better one's have been tabbed as needing at least a year holding the clipboard . . . i realize that's the perfect scenario anyway, but i believe teams "needing" a qb will be overpaying fa qb's instead of rookies this year . . . now, i could see buffalo taking one early, but teams like carolina, arizona, and even tennessee . . . i just don't see it . . . now, 2nd and 3rd rounds i could see quite a few qb's coming off the board . . . just my opinion though . . . ;)

No, you make great points. But here is the issue. Depending on how long they take to get CBA in place, there may be a very, very short period of time to make any FA moves, and or set up team. Not to mention trades will be for next years picks not this years. Which will make dealing a QB even harder, as you want depth for injury.

Not saying it won't happen, but it will be very hard to do so.

make sense when you are talking about "dealing" a qb like kolb or flynn or hanie . . . and this might have been a discussion for another thread . . . but, drafting a rookie in the 1st isn't any better than signing a semi experienced vet off the fa wire when you consider neither will be practicing with the team until a cba is agreed upon . . . i just really invision them dropping in this year's draft due to their lack of talent and more so what appears to be an abundance of defensive talent, especially on the dline.

Yeah, I agree, a 1st round Qb can be a crap shoot. But, assuming we get a cba, and that cba has a rookie wage scale, the hurt might not be near as bad. So I think that is why more will lean toward drafting vs. trades right now in an unknown cba world.

Re: Move over Kolb, Pack QB Matt Flynn is starting to heat up the Off Season QB Marke

That is my prob with doing NFL mocks right now. A new CBA will change everything with a rookie cap. The trading, QB's and RBs will go a lot earlier than normal and teams will be wanting to move up for those guys. we just don't know what is going to happen

you make a good point with the rookie wage scale . . . ;)
