Mississippi State lost Manny Diaz to Texas, but the defense still looked good.

The Bulldogs held Memphis to just 14 points and turned 2 sacks and 3 turnovers, while the offense piled up 645 yards of total offense, with 309 coming on the ground in the rout.

Vick Ballard rushed for 166 yards on just 10 carries and threw in 3 TDs as the Bulldogs rolled to a 45-7 lead after 3 quarters.

Mississippi State (1-0, 0-0 SEC) rolls on to tackle defending National Champion Auburn September 10th

Memphis (0-1, 0-0 CUSA) heads to Arkansas State Sept 10th for a much easier contest.

Certainly this was expected but then again where State is concerned they haven't always took care of business. The Dogs are heading in the right direction. How fast they'll get there is the question.

Theyve come along way. Thats a pretty nasty football team who I think would easily win the Big East right now.

I agree Sarge and it's great news for college football and the SEC West in particular but I'll miss the cupcake game against them each season. I have to be happy for the long suffering fans in Starkville.
