Mike Riley turns down USC

Though no "formal" offer had been made, the alleged front runner to replace Pete Carroll at USC, Oregon State HC Mike Riley, has accepted a contract extension to the end of the decade with the Beavers and publicly stated he will not go to USC.

Sources report the offer was very tempting to Riley, but he and his family are happy in Corvailis and he feels Oregon State is a job he can retire from.

Analysis: In a world of guys throwing away good things and jobs they can keep to roll the dice and often get burned, Riley showed just how smart he is by avoiding the impossible expectations at USC and keeping a job he can hold indefinately.

I agree with that assessment, Sgt. The expectations that come with being the head coach of USC are second to none. That community, and really the country, expect them to win every single year now. Good move by Riley. At the end of the day the stress would have caused him issues, likely even with his family. Stay where you're happy and have fun.

Good call Sarge! It's nice to see someone not reach for the so called greener grass on the other side of the fence.
