Mike Glennon: A Victim Of Discrimation?

OK, So I like this kid.

6'7", strong arm, good head and a pure pocket passer. All the mental and physical tools to become
"Peyton-esque" The only real knock on him is footwork. I'm not really sure how serious a knock "footwork" is for an NFL QB but it doesn't sound like it's unteachable to me.

Now the story starts with Greg Schiano....yeah, the jerk that coached Tampa Bay for a couple of years. Tuns out, Glennon was the son that Schiano always wanted, so he hustled his young prodigy onto his NFL team and devised a scheme to sink former 1st round pick Josh Freeman so that his fantasy dream QB could take the reins.

Schiano pulled it off, but it (among other things) cost him his job.

Glennon did fairly well in his new role as an NFL starting QB (with his "Dad" on the sidelines calling plays designed to make him look good). 19 TD's vs 9 ints in 13 starts. Meantime, unseated Josh Freeman did his best to make Schiano look like a genius.

All for naught as Schiano got canned at the end of the season and left his "son" standing in the lurch.

Enter Lovie Smith.

Ex Bears coach (and not a bad one) takes the wheel of the TB Buccaneers and almost IMMEDIATELY makes a deal to acquire Josh McCown from the Bears (2 years 10 Mil....WOW) and almost IMMEDIATELY declares that McCown is his starter.

Got nothing against McCown, mind you, but he's a 34 year old career "back-up" QB. The fact that he's been under contract with Az, Det, Oak, Car and Chi (and spent a year in the UFL) in his 11 year career tells me that no one saw anything special about him.

No doubt, he's had some bad luck injuries when it looked like things might finally go his way, and he played very well last season when Cutler went down, but still... 50/45 career TD/INT ratio? Only started more than 10 games ONCE in his career?

So the news just breaks that TB is "shopping" Glennon (Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer CBS). TB denies the rumor but it looks crystal clear to me. Lovie wants Glennon gone for the same opinionated/political reasons that Schiano brought him in for.

The kid is a victim of A) A coach that rushed him along for selfish reasons and B) A coach that is tossing him aside for selfish reasons.

I hope the kid gets a break where ever he ends up.

Yeah, could be.

Pick a QB in the draft and hope McCown keeps you buoyant while the rook is groomed.

...but Glennon is better than anybody in THIS year's draft

Well I think its still a bit too early to say that. Time will tell. But Glennon did look pretty OK for a rook last year.

Its being reported now that Glennon is all but gone in Tampa. Which I agree is a shame as the kid has some ability. I would look for him to be picked up pretty quickly, as a study behind someone.
