Mid Season Player Grades: RB Cedrick Benson

Benson hasn't been all bad but he also hasn't been that good either. You put him in as a starer and he gets some solid pointage. But he hasn't gotten you the Tds that help win you games. He has earned fantasy starter status but he has really only stepped up to help your team win 3 times, so far. The grade should probably be conditional with PPR being lower as there are a lot of parttime RBs that give Benson a run for his money. Using him in this format is a really challenge as far as lineup decision go each week. Non PPR Benson has a slight leg up. What to expect, more of the same. Last year the Bengals used a heavy formation to try and pound the ball. This year they are more pass orientated but not really highly successful at that so far.

I don't watch the Bengals, but I'm guessing Gresham isn't much of a blocker? Few rookie TEs excel at blocking. Then you have Palmer, who according to everyone that does watch the Bengals, doesn't have the juice in his arm that he used to. If that's true, the safeties will be closer to the line of scrimmage regardless of down and distance. It seems like a couple of factors that would crimp almost any running back's production.

dunno:

Good Point, It's hard to lay the blame at Benson's feet. It is more the fault of the new throw first philosophy. It wouldn't bee so bad if that throw first mind set were working better as that would open up Benson more.Production for Benson is off but it can't really be laid at his feet

True,
But it is clear the O-line is not peforming as well this year as last. Not sure what the issue is there, as all the same players are there. Palmer isn't what he was, but early in the season he was running for his life.

I also don't think Benson is the Benson of old. I think he is reverting to the Chicago Benson with the big check now.

Just my opinion.

I will add I think I called this one in one of our threads. I figured with the addition of Shipley, Greshem and T.O. that they would pass more. Thus run less, and have Benson's value drop.

Ive been pleased with him in the one league I drafted him in, but then again when he is riding Frank Gore's cape he dont have to give me much.

Would have to double check, but I thin I heard last week that Benson was on pace for around 1250 yds...if that is true, the yardage is still pretty good.
