Michael Turner 2009....yay or nay

Does anyone think the curse will hit Michael Turner. Or maybe playing the tougher defenses. Does anyone have any faith in him worth a 4th pick in a draft?

I don't see any way he repeats what he did last year. He will have less carries, and defenses will scheme even harder to take him away.

That being said though, if he can stay healthy, he should be pretty darn good. Considering he got those carries after very little mileage on him....may help him out.

He has gone top 5 in almost all drafts I have seen, that are not PPr anyways.

IF he stays healthy he will put up simular numbers again this year. Turner has always been that good of a RB, his misfortune was playing behind the best RB in football while with the Chargers. I'd take him with a fourth and laugh all the way to the title game.

I have quite a bit of faith in him. He is experienced although virtually unsed with the chargers. He didn't have to adjust to the NFL as a new environment as a rookie has to. He just had to take on a bigger workload.

He won't put up similar numbers to last year. Why?

first his coach has already acknowledged they used him too much last year, and fully intends to use change of pace more...good for Norwood.
Secondly he will put more offense in Ryan's hands...due to tools he now has in Gonzales.

I am not saying he will drop to 1000yrds. But I do think his carries and yards drop. Tds may still be there as they like him in redzone.

Just sayin

He also has a tougher schedule this year than last year

I believe that his yards will drop but his tds should stay arond the same numbers. He is playing tougher defenses yes. But Atlantas offense is still potent, especially with the addition of Tony Gonzales. I think they will still reach the endzone and will still show priority to Turner. I am still debating about taking him with pick 4, but if he is there with pick 6 it would be kind of hard not to. Plus, Norwood has been dropping to low rounds in most drafts I have been in so if I took him I could always snag norwood just in case.

You have to consider the guy in the top 5, dude was an absolute beast last year. What's different this year? QB has more experience and a solid pass catching tight end was added to the roster. All this does is make those runs a little easier on the guy.

This is like my thinking on this subject. I see adding Gonzo as a plus for Turner myself. Ok, maybe 35 less carrries but with Gonzo sucking LBs and Safeties out of the middle we may see Turners YPC go up to cover the lower touch count. 4-6 yard runs become 6-8 yard runs. Less runs for a loss with less LBs around, that sort of thing.

He's one of the slamdunk first 4 picks in either format, PPR or standard. The others of course being Peterson, MJD, and Forte. Only difference being how much stock you put in the reception totals. Turner and AP are virtually non-existent in their team's passing games, whereas MJD and Forte will likely post somewhere around 55-60 catches to go along with their rushing totals.
I've always felt curses were for backwoods Louisiana witch doctors and Cubs fans. Larry Johnson is a popular example of the "370" stigma, when the fact of the matter is that his offensive line started retiring or getting injured the year after he posted that total. L.T. was just fine after he had that type of year. Turner was a backup who barely saw the field in San Diego aside from mopup time when SD was running out the clock in the 4th quarter so he's got plenty of tread left.
Even if you project a 20% decline in his across-the-board production from last year, that still leaves him in the top 4, and in consideration for the #1 pick overall in non-PPR leagues. He and DeAngelo Williams both outscored Peterson last year by a comfortable margin due to TD totals.
So yes, if by some chance he's there at 4 in your draft, feel very safe picking him and be glad he fell to you.

I could have quoted Coach as well because they both make the key point. Less carries but nearly equal numbers if Big G is still worth his salt. Gonzalez will take away carries but he should make the remaining carries a bit easier. Norwood is becoming more and more a flake in my book.

Your book has a LOT of flakes in it, doesn't it?

Yeah. I am starting to lean towards nabbing him at 4. I am guessing it is either him or Forte. I would rather have Forte but you know. I am watching the ATL vs. STL preseason game right now and Turner looked really good. Of course that is against STL so you can't guage much. But it looked like he wasn't even trying. I think his stock is rising even though he has one of the tougher schedules. I do think Gonzo will open up lanes for him and I would not mind if his touches went down. He will still get all red zone touches, which is money in our league.
