rotoworld,
A vehicle belonging to Dolphins WR Brian Hartline was found abandoned after a crash on a Florida interstate earlier this month.

Authorities are still investigating who was driving Hartline's pickup truck when it ran off the road and hit a parked Cadillac Escalade. The driver left the scene, and the pickup was later towed away. The incident could land Hartline in hot water if he was driving, especially if alcohol was involved.

Might be enough hot water there for a passenger or two also??? :eek

I could just see a car full of 4 ballers stuck or wrecked in a ditch , but okay. They would move faster than the illegals do down here from the Border Patrol.

Charging a cooler, a couple of 12 packs and some ice..... nice. Cruzing around drunk in your friends pickup..... entertaining. Hiring a Limo and a tow truck to make a clean getaway after smashing into a Cadillac Escalade on the side of I-95...... priceless!!

The cbssports.com spin,
A truck registered to Dolphins WR Brian Hartline was involved in an early-morning accident after which the driver left the vehicle behind and fled the scene, according to the Miami Herald. On July 3, the Florida Highway Patrol came across the wreckage of a Ford truck, registered to Hartline, which had struck a broken down SUV parked on the shoulder of Interstate 595. There was no one present when troopers arrived at the scene, and investigators don’t know who was driving the truck, or whether the driver or anyone else was injured. They have yet to speak to Hartline himself, although his attorney did responded to a message left by authorities and told them Hartline was not injured. Whoever was driving the car faces charges of failure to report an accident and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage.

Analysis: Authorities have yet to speak to Hartline, however, the truck was not reported as stolen. If he does face criminal charges, commissioner Roger Goodell will surely be looking into the incident, which could potentially lead to a suspension under the league's personal conduct policy. Hartline had a nice rookie season, and is expected to compete for the starting wideout job opposite of Brandon Marshall. Legal issues aside, which are a long way from being resolved, Hartline is worth drafting with a late-round pick in all leagues since he should draw plenty of single coverage opposite Marshall

None of the reports that have been cited have stated that he was out of state. Even his lawyer seems to have not stated that though it could well be the case.

Just reading about this.

A FHP Trooper went to B.Hartline's residence and a house guess said to contact Hartline's wife in Calif. When the trooper left a message with the wife Hartline's attorney returned the call.

I'm thinking if Hartline was innocent why did his attorney return the call to the FHP ??

Its early as the investigation is just underway but sounds like Hartline may be hiding behind his attorney for now. :hmmm:

If this was in Calif. it would be a hit & run and is a felony in Calif. which would not be good for Hartline.

No, the truck thing happened in Florida, they were in Cali when it happened. As I understand it, one of his cousins was borrowing the truck while Hartline was away.

And it's not unusual for professional athletes to have their lawyers respond to any official inquiry.

Guess he had another accident in another state that he might be in trouble for Dearborn.

  • -- Brian Hartline Could Face Charge of Leaving Accident Scene --
    Wed Jul 14, 2010 --from FFMastermind.com
  • The Miami Herald reports Dolphins WR Brian Hartline could face charges of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage after a truck registered to him was involved in a predawn July 3 wreck. According to the official crash report, Florida Highway Patrol investigators still don't know who was driving the Ford registered to Hartline that hit a broken down Cadillac Escalade parked on the right shoulder of Interstate 595 around 4:37 a.m. They don't know if there were any injuries, although a man identifying himself as Hartline's attorney told FHP by phone that Hartline was uninjured. What they do know, according to the accident report, is that the Ford is registered to Hartline; nobody reported the accident; nobody was present when troopers arrived; and Hartline still hasn't made contact with FHP to talk about the accident. When an FHP trooper called Hartline's home, the report said, a guest told them Hartline wasn't home and she didn't know when he would be back. The guest gave the number of Hartline's wife, Lindsay, who was in California. Troopers called and left a message on her cellphone. The person claiming to be Hartline's attorney called in response to that message. Whoever was driving the car could be cited for failure to report an accident and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage. On the crash report, the estimated damages were $10,000 to Hartline's vehicle and $22,000 to the Escalade. An entry on Hartline's Twitter account said Monday night that the Ohio native is back in his home state. Another entry said he was in California's Napa Valley on June 29. There's no direct reference to him returning to South Florida from California. But Hartline wrote July 5 on Twitter that he was ''waiting for my dude to get into town'' then on July 6 that he and a friend were “starting our 1,400-mile trip to Ohio.'' Hartline's hometown of Canton is 1,177 miles from his Fort Lauderdale home. Northern California is 2,500 miles from Canton. From looking at the cars and the marks on the cars, highway, shoulder and adjacent grass, the FHP trooper on the scene formed this accident report: While going east on I-595 at approximately 65 mph (at the posted speed limit), on the airport side of I-95, Hartline's Ford drifted onto the right shoulder. The Escalade was on the shoulder, legally parked, according to the report. Hartline's Ford hit the Escalade, right front to left rear. The Ford then kept going about 200 yards before stopping. Meanwhile, the Escalade eventually spun onto the grass shoulder, facing north when it stopped.

I know it was in Florida, just saying its a felony to leave the scene of an accident (hit & Run) in Calif. is it the same in Florida ??

JoeBryant,
The Miami Dolphins need to find a complement to WR Brandon Marshall in the starting lineup, reports Omar Kelly, of The Sun-Sentinel. Offensive coordinator Dan Henning loves a smart receiver, and he said WR Brian Hartline was the team's smartest receiver a year ago. Hartline led the Dolphins' receivers in yards per reception (16.3) and the team may want the player opposite Marshall to stretch the field. Hartline is considered the team's fastest option at receiver. He could unseat WR Greg Camarillo for a starting job and hold off Davone Bess.

OUR VIEW

Kelly has been on Hartline's bandwagon for most of the offseason. He has surprising playmaking ability, but Hartline will have to share with Bess and Camarillo even if he starts. We all know what kind of targets Brandon Marshall will get, so it's hard to imagine Hartline making much of a splash beyond occasional big play outbursts.

rotoworld,
Brian Hartline practiced as the first-team flanker opposite Brandon Marshall to open Dolphins training camp.

Hartline projects as the Dolphins' top option in just about all areas, so he should get every opportunity to keep the position. To accrue substantial fantasy value, however, Hartline will need Miami to throw the ball more. He'll also need to beat out Greg Camarillo enough that Camarillo doesn't rotate in. Brandon Marshall will hog targets just as he did in Denver.
