I'm in the middle of my 3rd MFL draft so far. I've done a decent enough job of diversifying my rosters. Ive found that this year is even more extreme in the falling ADPs of QBs on there. There really isn't much value to targeting a top QB, even when they fall into the 4th and 5th rounds. It's a straight up RB/WR parade in the early rounds. You can easily wait until the 9th-11th to load up on guys like Bortles, Cousins, Jameis, Staford, Rivers, etc etc. I've taken Ben once in the 8th round though.
Looking back over my rosters from last year, I learned a little bit, at least about myself. I never seemed to have enough RBs as the season wears on. A guy or 2 goes down or simply doesn't produce, and I find myself getting a lot of small scores from my RB1 and RB2 spots. My first draft I really focused on shoring up my RBs in the first 6 rounds and letting the WRs come to me later. Unfortunately, I found that in the 10th-13th most of the good values that I liked were RBs, and the WR position kind of looked like crap.
In my first couple drafts I often found myself rushing through my picks in my depth as well, taking who I thought was the best overall value, and ignoring the bye weeks. I ended up with like 4 WRs all on bye week 8 or 9 or something at one point and realized I totally shot myself in the foot for that week. I'm trying to fix that now.
The draft that I have going on right now features what I think is my best team thus far. Bye weeks attached.
1. Odell 8
2. Amari Cooper 10
3. Doug Martin 6 Shocked that this guy lasts until the 3rd. In ESPN drafts he's a mid second rounder at worst in most cases. MFL has him lower.
4. Latavius Murray 10 Wanted to back this up with Washington later, but he went a few picks before me in the 13th
5. Doug Baldwin 5
6. DeMarco Murray 13
7. Desean Jackson 9 Not my favorite player, but a pretty good option for best ball format.
8. Tyler Eifert 9 Dinged up to start the season, but I missed on the TE run, landed a pretty talented TD maker, and now need to scrounge for depth
9. Josh Gordon 13 I was only 2 picks away when his reinstatement was announced. I'm more than willing to take the gamble in the 9th round
10. Bilal Powell 11 A nice PPR player who also happens to be sitting behind one of the oldest and most worn down RBs in the league
11. Blake Bortles 5 Can't believe the QB run took this long to start
12. Jameis Winston 6 Decent enough backup option. I think with these 2 QBs I might be looking for a 3rd to rotate in with this group
13. Jerick McKinnon 6 Certainly a lower floor than Powell. This could end up being a completely wasted pick, but I think AP is one of the most likely to fall off this year.
My top 4 RBs all have different bye weeks. My top 5 WRs all have different bye weeks. At this point, I'm going to ignore bye weeks (except for QB and TE) and just get who I think has the highest ceiling.
I really need a sleeper TE who could be dependable in the early weeks and even give some surprise big games later who also doesn't have a week 9 bye. The guys still available are:
Clay
ASJ
Clive Walford
Tyler Higbee
Hunter Henry
Jared Cook
Nick Vannett
Austin Hooper
Kyle Rudolph
Jerrell Adams
Will Tye
Ben Watson
Richard Rodgers
Jeff Huermann
Maxx Williams
Jacob Tamme
Jace Amaro
Larry Donnell
Spend 2 picks taking 2 of these guys? Anyone stand out? I don't mind Clay, but he would require the earliest pick at this point. Rudolph should bounce back a bit. I'd rather not take any of the rookies.
