ESPN reports QB Donovan McNabb and the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to restructure the final two years of his contract. The five-time Pro Bowler was due to make $9.2 million this season and $10 million next season. ESPN's Michael Smith reported the two-year deal is worth $24.5 million, with another $1 million in incentives. McNabb, who is entering his 11th season with the Eagles, had been seeking a contract extension. Instead, he'll get a raise. "The Philadelphia Eagles organization and the entire city of Philadelphia are fortunate to have a quarterback the caliber of Donovan McNabb," HC Andy Reid said in a statement. "He has proven himself to be a talented player on the field, a caring member of the Philadelphia community, and a winner."

Hard to believe now that he was benched last season.

Hard to believe now that he was benched last season.

This is just my take...so please don't read too much into this.

This is telling to me. First this is NOT an extension....rumors are flying that there is still talks on one....but it is not one. Secondly, it is just more money.........so I wonder......shut up money?

Here is the other kicker...this restructure runs out the same time Kolb's does. Does this make Kolb NOT the heir apparent?

I take this as a way to keep McNabb happy, but also allows the team to move to the future. They do like Kolb...and an extension for him probably is coming. The fact they did not do the extension first tells me the team knows the end is coming soon for McNabb....and they want to be ready, which is their M.O.

As an Eagles fan, I am torn. I like McNabb, and you cannot ignore the fact of how well this team does when he is on. With the revamped O-line, and added Wr depth.....he could have one hell of a year this and next. But he is getting older, and his mileage is greater due to the fact he was a "mobile" Qb early in his career.

Quite honestly..i hope they don't extend....and move to Kolb as soon as possible...as they need to see what the future is. So I would expect to see alot of Kolb this pre-season...and in any blowouts during the season.

I'm not entirely enthused by this $6 million raise that McNabb has been given.

I think it establishes a dangerous precedent for other players who may request more salary cap space for what they (and their agents) feel is deserved of them. Take Sheldon Brown, for example, who probably feels that he deserves extra money for being an indispensable cornerback. Think about OG Shawn Andrews who will be making less than $1 million this year and is signed through 2015. Do you really think that these players (and the rumored double digit number of Eagles players who are unhappy with their current contracts) are going to sit idly by while McNabb gets a raise without an extension? I think it makes them more emboldened.

This is not entirely good - even though it ensures McNabb's presence for the next two years and will quiet the media hoopla about whether his future with the Eagles is in question. I don't think McNabb's raise is entirely bad either, but it's a questionable decision that doesn't benefit the team or the fans. The only good thing that can be said is that it makes McNabb wealthier and happier than he was previously. But how much does that help the team?

I agree with Remo that keeping Kolb on the bench that long is not a good sign that he is their future QB.

I don't see this as a dangerous precedent since the general rule is that neither side (player or management) hold themselves to the contracts that are negotiated. This definitely benefits the team and fans though. Cutler isn't half the QB McNabb is and look how quickly things went south once he became a malcontent. Philly has the pieces to make a serious run but that is not going to happen without DMc

kolb has not impressed me in the least so far

He impressed me in his NFL debut against the Ravens.

The fact that he was intercepted by Ed Reed on the goal line was the fault of the play caller, not the QB. All they needed to do was QB sneak, run etc. and it would have been a TD. Instead Reid etc. wanted him to win the job by "being a hero" and even said so in the post game press conference.

The bottom line is: I don't know if Kolb is any good. Harbaugh and Reid think he is very good, but I have no idea given the very limited sample of PT he's been given in the NFL.
