McCoy or Charles

Which has better long term value? Charles is explosive but I have reserves about him being a top 10 back. I see McCoy taking the helm next year and becoming Westbrook 2.0.

I would lean McCoy. the offense will always be explosive in Philly, and he is almost as good a reciever as Westbrook. I am also not sure Westbrook will be back.

I am like you, you can't deny what Charles did...but wonder if he will hold up as a full time back for long.

I would have to go with Charles. He is the second fastest back in the league. He averaged 5.9 yds/carry this year.

Phic and Jack have both valid points but at this point I would be swayed by the fact that McCoy has more talent surrounding him to balance the offense out. KC may be moving in that direction but Philly, in my opinion at least, has done a better job of consistently putting out a more solid product.

Even when KC was contending it was on the back of their RB's w/ marginal WR's. I like Charles but do not see him in the Holmes/Johnson in their prime category. By the same token I would have liked to have seen more production from McCoy when he had his chances.

What do you think the Weis signing will mean for Charles? I don't know tons about Weis other than the fact that he likes to throw the ball.

I don't see Charles as an every down back. His inflated numbers are partly due to the team he was on. When you are playing from behind, running the ball is much easier.

Even if he did become legit threat, the Chiefs aren't strong enough to support him vs teams who's top priority is to shut him down.

McCoy is the apparent #1 on a talented team. A much safer bet, IMO.

Jamaal is good out of the backfield with the pass now and is a threat to score everytime he touches the ball. Poor man's Chris Johnson.

Charles has been pretty durable, and I think with Crennel, Weis, Haley, and Pioli the Chiefs are going to be movin and shakin in 2010.

Good point

I really like Charles, I liked him last year, and this year. And finally he got his chance. From this season, it looks like he can be an every down back. But he only started 8 games I think.
But at the same time, how many games did McCoy start this year?

I didn't see anyone mention that Philly plays in a much tougher division at least for RBs. Don't forget, KC gets to run against the Raiders 2X per year. I think they both have good upside. If I had to pick, I guess it would be Charles just because I've seen him do it in the NFL. McCoy hasn't showed me that he can be "Westbrook 2.0."
