Matt Schaub Value?

Where would you rank Schaub on list of QBs. Most people dont even have him as a top ten QB. But I list him as high as number 5. Heres why. Last year he was 4th amoung QBs in Yards/Gm (276.6/gm). Trailing only Brees Warner and Cutler. Also he was 4th in Passing % (66.1 %) trailing Pennington, Manning and Warner. He was 2nd in yards per attempt 8Yds/A. Trailing only Rivers and tied with Brees. And those numbers go up with Slaton in the game. So why isnt he a top QB?

I think most shy away from the injury concerns. He's missed some significant time over the course of his career.

But if he can stay healthy and play the entire season, absolutely no reason this guy cannot finish top 6 as a fantasy QB.

They have a great, balanced offense, a legit #1 WR in Andre, a legit RB in Slaton and a supporting cast of Walter and Daniels.

He has the tools to be very successful, he just needs to stay on the field.

Aside from injury concerns, the thing that most of the QBs he was trailing have that Schaub doesnt have, is 2 stud WRs. Warner and Manning each had a double threat on either side (Marvin/Wayne, Boldin/Fitz), Brees seems to make anyone a good WR leading the league without Marques Colston last season, even Rivers had the illusion of 2 strong WRs even though Chambers was a bit of a joke last season.

But still Schaub stays healthy, he's top 10 material.

He's a great guy to grab late if you end up waiting on a QB. Could easily wind up being in the top 5 or 6 at seasons end if he avoids injury.

I like waiting until I have 6 other position players locked in, then taking Schaub around the 7th with the upside of getting a potential top-5 or 6 QB by season's end. I usually grab another low-end QB1 with my very next pick such as Ryan or Cassel as injury insurance.
The advantage to this is his bye week is 10 and the only other QB with a bye that week is Eli, who I don't usually consider at all anyway, in fantasy circles.
