Chargers | Ryan Mathews won't see third-down work Wed Sep 8, 04:53 PM
San Diego Chargers rookie RB Ryan Mathews will not see playing time on third-downs, according to head coach Norv Turner. Turner said Mathews is outstanding in pass protection, but said the team will keep RB Darren Sproles in that role during the upcoming season. Turner said he has been excited about Mathews thus far, noting he has great speed, can get outside to the edge and is a very physical, downhill running back.

Probably a smart move by the Chargers.

Sproles has talent and speed. Norv would be foolish to mortgage the farm on a rookie when he's got Darren's athletic lightning bolts to share the work with. I wouldn't be shocked to see Sproles become the goal line favorite too, since he's more accustomed to taking the redzone hits from the defenses.

I hope so... I have him in my league that counts return yards. I expect him to be big this season.
