Marvin Lewis - The future?

So Marvin Lewis's contract is up in Cincy.......there are questions around weather the team wants him back and weather Marvin wants to go back. Marvin wants an indoor practice facility (the fact that he does not have one already is a joke, they are the only Northern team to not have one.....UC down the road has one.....yet the Bengals do not, nuff said) and increases to the scouting staff.

Lewis has managed to make the Bengals average, but let's face it, in any other city with his record he would have been likely fired by now. However in Cincy with Mike Brown as your owner, average is a hell of an accomplishment.

That said, if this team is going to get better, they need new leadership I think. Marvin's act with the team has gone stale and I am not sure he can get the spark that is needed to change this team again. But it sounds like a decision will be announced by Tuesday so we should not be waiting long. My gut says they look in another direction and hire Mike Zimmer as the new head coach.

If Marvin is gone, where does he go? Anyone going to give him another HC job right away? DC somewhere?

I will wait to see if he is gone first before speculating more. Should he be gone? I'm not sure if a new face at HC alone can correct some of the things going on with ownership there?

I think he stays but is on the hotseat next season. He'll be fired by half way point if they have another season like this next year. Too much talent there to be as bad as they were or are right now. Of course, Cincy might clean house, get rid of Carson, TO, Owens and Lewis and call next year a rebuilding year......again. Maybe bring in Mcnabb and some fresh FAs and work thru the draft trying to build something up.

With the uncertain labor market and his "if I want to come back" statement, I think he will be shown the door. Zimmer is a good one year stop gap hire, something that seems to be a trend with this lockout coming up.

To answer the other question, yes he is going to get another job pretty quick. Guy has a great defensive mind.

Another job.....or another HC job???

He will get another job easily, your right, great DC. But will he get another HCing job right away??? That i am not sure about. Rumor is SF would like to talk to him, but no work on for what position.

Rumor with the most heat right now is billick as HC in san Fran with Lewis as DC. Billick was talking about it on the TV during one of the games I was watching on TV this week.

I have stepped out here before and feel the need to do so again. What a failure based solely on how he allowed players to rule the roost. If that was because of ownership he should have walked 3 years ago. This has been Chad's playhouse and the franchise suffered. Just my opinion.

I have to admit, I am torn here.

He has major issues. Not just with some players, but there seems to be a lack of overall discipline issues, with penalties and such.

But I wonder how much real push he had, if Mike steps in and says you can't cut this guy or that. Then goes and brings back players without confering with Lewis first.

overall, it seems like a failed marriage, but not sure anyone else could do better.

That would make a ton of sense. At this point I don't see him being a HC again until he proves himself again.

For as much as he was pegged as a disciplinarian when he first came to Cincy, he turned out to be nothing of the sort.

Lewis did some nice things.....but in the end, he failed to live up to the talent level of his teams IMO.

I'd like to see that, but I don't see him putting up with mike Brown or the price tag Brown will toss out there.

Pretty simple here, and I'm OK with it, so long as Brown actually lets go of the reins a bit. Lewis is a disciplinarian, but what good are Dad's punishments (Lewis) when they can run to Mom (Brown)? Cincinnati is the only place he'd be head coach, coming off 4-12. Remember, he WANTS to be a HC, NOT a DC. Mike Brown hates change, and knows there's no one with more name power than Marvin coming to Cincy due to his meddling in things he knows nothing about. There are 3 teams with owner/GM's in this league. One has more money than he can spend in a lifetime, and has lived and breathed football his whole life. The other teams are the Bengals and Bills. This does not work. I wish he'd see that.

Last I checked, the Bills have a GM. Owner doesn't tinker all that much. But your point on the Bengals is spot on. I stated in the thread i started a few days ago on coaches on the hot seat that Marvin may not be gone. With the CBA up in the air...this was not a surprising move to me. I still think the OC has to go though.

Bratkowski will have the OC job as long as Brown owns the team, I think he's a family friend.

Interesting,I did not know that. Could be part of the negotiation with Marvin though, to keep him on. That he has full say on his staff. dunno:

I for one wouldn't mind him staying..if all the stuff in the Enquirer is correct. That being if Brat stays, Benson, OchoCinco, Owens and a few others are gone then.
