Draft Projection - First Round

NFL Impact
Mark Sanchez is considered by most to be the #2 QB in this class. Sanchez decided to come out early despite claims by his college coach that he would have been better off returning for his senior year. Sanchez is a good athlete who has good size and a good frame. He has a strong arm and can make all the throws. However, accuracy and decision making skills leave something to be desired at times and could end up making or breaking him in the pro's. Can he improve in these areas, or will he struggle with them at the next level? Starting experience and durability are also question marks as GM's try to decide if he is a franchise QB.

So where do you think Sanchez will land? How successful will he be in the NFL?

McShay was on ESPN radio today and stated a source close to the Seahawks organization stated that the chance of Seattle taking Mark Sanchez is currently at 80% and he has updated his most recent mock to reflect this.

Sanchez is picking up major steam as draft day approaches. But is this smoke in an attempt to get trade interest or are they seriously considering this? And if they are, how much property damage with AD cause minutes after this pick is announced??? ;)

I love the idea......that means the possibility of Monroe sliding to #6 increases if Seattle goes QB!

I heard this report all day on the ESPN family as well, but I can't help but think it involves some very subtle cloak-and-daggery. Strategically leak a story to give legitimacy to earlier rumors that weren't really taken seriously? They don't want that draft slot any more than the other 3-4 teams do, especially when they can float this story out there and accrue more picks.
On the other hand, if it's true, I personally feel it would a mistake to take Sanchez here. Not that I have a strong opinion on Sanchez, I just think there are better choices to address their needs.

LOL, Last year I abandoned all Seahawks websites and forums for months after the Jackson pick. Really hard to get a feeling on TR right now.

Ruskell doesn't envision 'Hawks trading down
The News
General manager Tim Ruskell doesn't envision the Seahawks trading down in the upcoming draft. His team holds the fourth overall pick. "Those of us at the top don't sense that we're going down," Ruskell tells the Tacoma News Tribune. "The phone's not ringing off the hook for that." Ruskell does not believe there are any franchise-changing players at the top of the draft. He adds that team officials have identified their top-four players, but they may not agree on the order of those four guys.
Our View
Ruskell doesn't sound overly enamored with the choices available at No. 4, and we can only imagine how depressed he'll sound come rounds four, five, six, and seven. Ruskell hasn't picked higher than No. 26 since replacing Bob Whitsett in 2005.

Now we can also add the Bills to the list of teams that may be interested in trading up to the #4 pick

Bills looking for left tackles
The News
The trade of left tackle Jason Peters to the Eagles leaves the Bills with a huge hole on the left side, and it increases the odds of the team using their No. 11 overall pick on Michael Oher or Andre Smith, ESPN.com notes. "You get Terrell Owens and have all these weapons," Scouts, Inc. analyst Matt Williamson notes, "but if you can't keep Trent Edwards upright, you've got big problems."
Our View
With two first-round selections (No. 11, 28) and an extra fourth-round pick, the Bills have ammunition if they want to move up and go after Eugene Monroe or Jason Smith. The loss of Peters and left guard Derrick Dockery not only endangers Trent Edwards' backside, we also have to wonder if Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson will have as much success running left in 2009.

I'd love for Seattle to trade back a bit and still get Oher or Smith, however I think TR would trade back a bit and again select a defensive player. We may be looking at years of early draft picks
