Mark Brunell to be a Jet?

rotoworld,
There's a "feeling around the Jets" that they will sign free agent Mark Brunell, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Per the "Final Eight" rules, the Jets can't sign Brunell until July 22 unless they lose an unrestricted free agent. There are whispers that they already have a "wink-and-nod" agreement with Brunell to come in and mentor Mark Sanchez. Kellen Clemens should be looking for a new home.

Mentor/Coach yes, as a quality back up QB no, i dont see this as a productive move for the Jets

Getting rid of clemens, a solid back up, to bring in a player who will never play seems foolish to me. Why can't they just pay him to be a coach or mentor.

He has to be really fragile by now. Took a beating in Jax and then got ass raped trying to play QB behind what Washington tried to call an offensive line. Now older and sharing a retirement home room with Favre, he's going to get back on the field. All i can say is, i hope the Jets have the stretcher ready if he does step onto the field during the season.

rotoworld,
ESPN's Chris Mortensen says you can "basically bank on" Mark Brunell joining the Jets come mid-July.

This story was already reported a couple weeks back, so Mort is just confirming. The Jets simply have to wait until July 22 due to the "Final Eight" rules. Brunell will be a great sounding board for Mark Sanchez to work with, although the Jets better pray Brunell doesn't get called into action.

The New York Jets have signed unrestricted free-agent QB Mark Brunell (Saints) to a two-year deal, according to Jason La Canfora, of NFL Network. Brunell will receive around the veteran minimum each season.

Brunell won a Super Bowl last year as the primary backup behind Drew Brees. The Jets want him behind Mark Sanchez for veteran insurance. He's not the same player he used to be, but he's not as bad as Brad Johnson was at the end of his career. This move could push players like Erik Ainge and Kevin O'Connell off the final roster.

So thats where Ainge ended up. Still a bad move. Hope that line protects Sanchez or its season will be over with Brunell as starter. Brunell another Favre?
