Lost expectations?

Per the thread from GB def losing two more....lets talk about lost expectations.

In the NFC:
Most had San Fran or Arizona winning the West - probably Seattle now
Most had Minnesota or Green bay winning the North - probably Chicago?!?!?!
Most had New Orleans winning the south - probably Atlanta or Tampa Bay?!?!?
East - Most had Dallas winning.....probably NYG or Washington?!?!?

AFC isn't quite so bad..
West - most had SD, looks like KC
East - Jets and Pats as expected
South - Indy and Tenn again....Hou with outside shot
North - Pittsburgh, with Baltimore chasing - some had cincy :biglaugh:

Only real super surprises for me:
Dallas being this bad, Minny being that bad, New Orleans also
KC being this good, since they are young.

Anyone else?

Honestly, the only surprise for me other than what you mentioned is Cincy......on paper coming in, everything looked better. They had a sound running game and solid defense, they got Odom back. Their biggest perceived weakness was in the passing game. They added 3 quality guys in Owens(can stretch the field vertical), Shipley(open the middle up), and Gresham(ditto).

Instead, we're seeing an uncoordinated offense that makes too many mistakes(false starts, miscommunicated routes, forced bad throws). The defense is underperforming because they're on the field for too long(read:can't get off the field on 3rd down).

Some of it is Palmer. The majority goes back to what me and Miller yell about every year, Bratkowski. All these weapons and he won't open up the offense until we're down 21. Look at the NE and ATL games. We get down big, he cuts Palmer loose.

This team should be 4-2, not 2-4. So yeah, big disappointment.

Time to face facts. Some teams are on their way out of the play-off picture taking some projected fantasy points with them.

AFC West:

The Chargers have been a paper tiger for a couple of years now, playing in the weakest division of the AFC. Rivers is a mirage made possible by the likes of LT, VJax and Gates. 2 of them are gone and Gates is a year older. Mathews will play out to be a very good investment but not at the cost you paid for him. Key positional losses combined with much improved divisional rivals will bring the Chargers back to middle of the pack.

AFC East

The Pats started their decline last year and it will continue through 2010. Brady is finished as an elite QB option and Moss is unhappy, and we all know, when Moss is unhappy EVERYONE is unhappy. Welker is running on retreads and the RB situation makes Patriot RBs less than reliable for fantasy owners.
Their defense has become their strength and will buy them some wins but the Jets and Dolphins will keep Brady & Co. in check.

NFC North

This years award for the team with the fastest demise goes to the Vikings. Key injuries and a total investment in a 40 yr old QB will render the Vikes impotent. AP and a solid defense will keep them in games but when Favre goes down so will the team. Green Bay has already asserted themselves as the cream of the division and the much improved Bears and Lions will keep the Vikes out of a play-off repeat.

NFC South

The Saints won it all in high style last year and were one of the most fun teams to watch. It won't happen again because the Saints defense will not repeat their opportunistic performance. Their defense is mediocre at best. Brees and Co. will continue to put up the big numbers but the improvement of Carolina, Tampa and Atl will keep the Saints humble. They still make the play-offs but won't be able to compete. When Brees retires, this team goes right back to the cellar where they belong.

Fun thread to revisit.
