Lions Do The QB Shuffle

The landscape of the Detroit quarterback depth chart changed drastically Tuesday, when the Lions acquired former New England quarterback Kevin O'Connell off waivers. Earlier in the day, Detroit signed Brooks Bollinger. Both of these moves were prompted by sudden injuries to Drew Stanton and Daunte Culpepper. An MRI test Tuesday revealed Stanton has torn knee cartilage and could undergo arthroscopic surgery as soon as Wednesday. Culpepper's foot was announced earlier in the day to have needed eight stitches to close up a large cut. The Lions had waiver priority over every other team and were awarded with O'Connell, who was the backup to Tom Brady.

My guess is Stanton is a goner. Bollinger is a camp fill in for last game. O'Connell will be kept and groomed to be the back up for Stafford in the future. Last I heard Culpepper should be starter for game 1....and at some point Stafford will take over.

I think Culpepper will be the one starting as well. He seems to be the best option right now, and the Lions need to do whatever necessary to get a couple wins under them.

Stanton is likely gone, hope he gets a legit opportunity somewhere else.

Getting O'Connell was a good move. I really believe the Lions need to avoid temptation and give Stafford some growing time.
