Let's Not Forget About Plaxico!

Things are looking... strangely up, for Plax's 2009 return to the NFL. Obviously there are 2 issues: the jail time that he will likely be forced to have, and the fact that he has no team. But let's face it. He's Plaxico Burress. 2006-2007 he had over 10 TDs and has posted 1,000 yards 4 seasons. If the man is available, he will have a job. So, let's take a look at what things are looking like, at the defense's table:

Burress' next court date has been moved to late September. It is at this trial that he will be told whether or not he will have to stand trial for the indictment of last year's "shoot-myself-in-the-leg" fiasco. IF he does have to stand trial for that, it's almost 100% guaranteed that the trial will be in 2010, well after the 2009 season.

We've also heard good old Drew Rosenhaus say that he's confident Burress will find a team come training camp. Should we doubt him? That is, if it's most likely that Burress will be free to play football until 2010?

If I were you, I'd keep my eye on Burress and if his name is still lingering late in a draft, think about it. Hard to say this, but Plaxico could possibly be 2009's biggest sleeper.

Discuss.

I refuse to spend a draft pick on a guy who isn't on a team.

Until that dude is signed somewhere and there are some TC reports coming out, he won't be on my draft board.

Depending on your league setup, you may not be able to draft him at all if he's not on a team at the time of your draft.

Which would make for an interesting waiver claim period if he signs somewhere after that. Even more reason why I like picking at the end of the first round. (Better waiver spot)
